Re: Did SPD affect how you gave birth?
I'm quite keen to have a water birth if possible
Thanks for sharing your experiences. Sounds like some of your suffered really badly with it. I'm ok pottering around the house as long as I don't do very much but I think I'm going to struggle going back to work tomorrow (I've been on annual leave for a couple of weeks and it's only in that time that it's become a problem
). So tomorrow will be a test, but given how little I've done today and how much it's all hurting, I don't think I'll be managing at work much longer. I've got a GP appointment on Wednesday and I'm hoping he'll agree to sign me off sick.

Re: Did SPD affect how you gave birth?
I had to finish up at the end of the 6th month as it was just agonising - in the end just moving position in the bed made me cry. I went for physio and did all the exercises etc (what I could as I was on crutches) but it made no difference, however I have since read and heard of a few people who got relief from an Osteo or Acupuncture, so if it gets bad you could try those? apparently driving is also very bad for it.

Re: Did SPD affect how you gave birth?
Driving doesn't seem to cause any pain, in fact sitting in the car is one of the places I'm most comfortable
However it's interesting you say it is a bad thing to do. I don't drive a lot, although I've had to this week as DH had surgery on his ankle a week ago. I have to drive us both to north Wales on Friday for a wedding
I'm hoping DH will be able to do a bit of the motorway driving.

Re: Did SPD affect how you gave birth?
It was my doctor told me that in India or somwhere apparently spd is non-existent and this is because the women don't drive - sounds a bit mental but because sometimes my job involves driving before I had to stop, she just conversationally told me this as I mentioned that I found my hips and the inner thigh pain much worse the day after I'd had to drive to a meeting. I know it sounds weird but she's specialised in midwifery etc and gave me lots of information and help after the birth, so there must be some truth to it.

Re: Did SPD affect how you gave birth?
I had SPD with Finlay and was on crutches for the last 3 months. The main thing that helped was a course of accupuncture. It was always worse the day after it but eventually I could manage without the crutches at least around the house if I took it easy.
I had a water birth with Finlay and it really helped with labour. I was on all fours in the pool and kept my knees together until the end.

Re: Did SPD affect how you gave birth?
I really do think water helps with SPD for giving birth, fingers crossed you get your water birth!
Mine was pretty terrible, my wonderful Osteo made it a bit more bearable but I had to give up work at 27 weeks (only part time but very physical job that required me to be on my feet for several hours at a time!) and driving definitely made it worse, I had to be so careful getting in and out of cars and had cushions to support me.

oh no it's not that it 'causes' it Waxy, as obviously it's caused by the relaxin hormone releasing too early and in too much quantity, but apparently it made it worse.
