That isn't actually true. Territorial issues may arise with another Cat that they don't know and aren't bonded with, but lots of Cats get along fine with other Cats.

yes that's been our experience - if you take two in as kittens at the same time then they'll be fine.

Not our experience . Two litter mates, got on great, but the fighting gradually went from playful to occasionally aggressive, then they started pissing up the walls and the tv, and scratting all the furniture. Tried absolutely everything, but the only thing that stopped them was splitting them up. They still snuggled up to sleep and got on fine, they just need a bit more space. They both live alone now and are much, much happier.

wow! no wonder you're against it! I'd go demented if I had cats peeing on my walls and scratching the furniture!! Our two were not even related, just both rescues brought in at the same time and they bonded. They have little spats sometimes but not regularly, we must be lucky!

If you're not fussed on breed then def go for a charity, but what you may find is that they won't let you have a kitten with an child under 5 (that was my experience anyway.

Personality wise I'd recommend that you go for a male tabby cat - I don't know one who isn't a soppy cuddly cat!
