What would you make, 60th birthday?

So it seems I'm lumbered with sorting out my mums 60th surprise party on Sunday at my house
There will be approx 30 people from little ones through to 60 years old so fairly intimate.

What would you make? I'm not the best cook and regularly burn things but can do things if I really concentrate

We don't have a lot of space so needs to be finger food or fork buffet It all sounds so desirable doesn't it I am good at supplying booze though

I'd do a buffet. I was at a party for 25 on Sunday and we had:

    cold cooked turkey
    Quiche
    Green salad
    Greek salad
    Pasta salad
    French bread
    Hot new potatoes

For pud we had chocolate mousse cheesecake & a meringue dish

    We had a winter BBQ about a month ago. We had about 12 adults & 8 kids. I did most of the prep the day before;
    Minted lamb burgers (homemade)
    Beef & cheddar burgers (shop)
    Sausages (shop)
    Mint, yoghurt and cucumber dip
Couscous with red onion, cucumber and some other stuff
    Potato salad
5bean curry (BBC good food recipe)
Pesto gnocchi bake (White sauce & pesto, oven bake gnocchi, broccoli and shove chunks of cheese in)
    Regular salad
Roasted veg (aubergine, squash, onion, mushroom, courgette)
    Bread rolls, pitta breads
    Crisps
It was very stress free and our next BBq is planned to be similar (not that much BBq food).

If the budget is really tight i'd go to Iceland and choose wisely! Sainsburys do nice platters of sandwiches that are quite reasonable I think. Also Costco sandwiches are a good price.

The baked potatoes and pizzas are a good idea too.

Do you have to get a cake?

If the budget is tight I'd rope in help and get some of the guests to bring stuff!

Great ideas ladies & do-able I've just told DH and he's in a pissy mood now

Holly, I think pizzas and jackets would be great for kids actually, I'm not sure I an bring myself to enter Iceland & become a Kerry katona
    ETA: budget is around £150
