What would you expect in this situation - I can't decide!
There's a work event (pleasure rather than business) coming up soon that takes place on a work day so everyone who works full time or part time on that day essentially gets an extra days holiday. I will be going to the event but as I don't work that day I will be going in my own time IYSWIM.
I might not have been too fussed but before I knew about the event I was actually planning on working that day in place of the previous Monday which is a PD day (although as it's so far off I hadn't told work yet
) Do you think it's fair of me to ask for the day to be treated as a work day for me too so I get the benefit of the day off like everyone else? If I don't I'll either have to take the PD as a days holiday or work another day instead.
I hope this makes sense! I'd welcome a second opinion as part of me thinks I'm justified in asking for the day back but I'm also wondering if I'm being a bit silly about it!
Thanks for reading if you've got this far!

Re: What would you expect in this situation - I can't decide!
When I was part time on a contract like yours (sounds) I was able to attend away days and have a day off in lieu.

Thanks, that's interesting to hear.
If it makes any difference, I'm not required to attend but I do want to go. It's also been pointed out that I'm getting the same "benefit" from the event as a full-time person so I am better off in that respect. A fair point I guess but not if other part-timers are getting a day off work!

Re: What would you expect in this situation - I can't decide!
I just wanted to bump this one up again. I queried the day off that other part timers are getting and have basically been told that it's tough luck as I don't work on the day in question. I don't want to cause too much of a fuss as it's a very nice benefit we're getting but it seems unfair that some part timers also benefit from a day off work and others don't.
Any more thoughts?

Franjay, I would say it is tough luck too. You win some, you lose some. You could always choose not to go.

Re: What would you expect in this situation - I can't decide!
You've said it is a pleasure event rather than business, so if you do not normally work that day then look at it as getting a freebie to a pleasure event - I know you see it as everyone getting an extra day's holiday but I don't see it like that. They are away from work for the day yes, but it's not a day's holiday that they can use any other way. If they give you a day's holiday, you can use it how you wish. They would think that wasn't fair on them!
I'm not sure what you mean by PD day, if they will let you cover that by working another day (rather than using your holiday entitlement) then you've saved a day there.

yes i agree, i work pt and the xmas do is usually on a day i don't work - sometimes i go, sometimes i don't but i've never asked for a day off in lieu - that's just the way it works.
i would say its totally your choice to go or not, but doesn't warrant anything in return from your employer

Thanks for the replies. I often spend too much time over thinking these things so it's good to have some perspective!
