    Brilliant result

Just as well you didn't let us talk you into ending it

Glad it went well for you. I've run thousands of ebay auctions over the last 3 or 4 years, and I've learnt tha tthe first sign an auction is about to go crazy is someone asking if I'll end it early. In ebayese, "Will you do a BIN?"= "It's worth far more than I want to pay,can I buy it before anyone else notices?".

    Very true.

I thought the cash offer came from outside ebay. Nearly always worth letting it run if someone wants a BIN as it often seems to be a try on.

Sadly warning flags don't get to fly on my auctions very often

I nearly always ask for Buy it Nows, I never have the patience to wait for an auction to end, its not always people trying it on.

I asked for a buy it now on a fireplace a few months ago, the starting price was £10 and I offered him £20. The seller said he had had a few offers like that so wanted to let the auction run unless I wanted to offer enough to make it worth him ending it. So I said i'd wait and won it for £10.50

How much did it go for in the end?

I didn't say it was always a try on Personally I tend to let auctions run regardless having agreed to a BIN on one occasion and getting effed about

Another good result there though. An object lesson in starting at a price you'd be happy to end at!
