cheapest place for rabbit hutch - advice needed
Title says it all really, we are going to buy Eve 2 rabbits and am looking around for a rabbit hutch, preferably 2 storey so they can escape from our cats, plus a run. Have seen a 2 storey hutch on JTF flyer for £49 which seems cheap, versus £100 in pets at home which seems pricey.
Any best places for cheaper ones and is it a case of you get what you pay for in this area or will any cheap hutch do??

Freecycle, small ad in the local paper?
Its a sad fact that lots of people get fed up with their rabbits, re home them and then just sell of the rabbit hutch.
My last hutch was from a lady up the road via freecycle

Ooh good idea, will post on freecycle! They're a greedy bunch round here though, I expect it would get snapped up quickly!

Rabbits need as big a hutch as you can get, have you thought about going to a rescue and adopting a bonded (neutered) pair? They'll give you the best advice.
When we had rabbits we had 6ft x 2ft x 2ft hutches with attached run of 6ft x 4ft x 4ft per pair.

Oh yes, bunnies need lots of space. Also look at chicken coops as they have an upstairs which is lovely and warm and dry for the rabbits and less scary for them on the fox front.

Kelly we were planning to go to the local RSPCA shelter.is there a difference between bonded and neutered? Haven't heard the former before. Will have to do some research.
What's best, 2 male, 2female or mixed?

Re: cheapest place for rabbit hutch - advice needed
Sorry just came back to this.
A bonded pair is a pair that has been neutered and then supervised for a while to ensure that they are happy together and no fighting/dominance. Lots of rescues spend *tons* of time matching rabbits up so that you can get a perfect pair.
If you haven't already got them i'd recommend looking at http://www.rabbitrehome.org.uk/ as lots of the local rescues are on there and you'll get loads of rabbit keeping advice.

Re: cheapest place for rabbit hutch - advice needed
We've had our hutch for under a year and it is wrecked. I've just been searching to see if you can get plastic hutches but there doesn't seem to be many that are affordable. I found one but it seems small.
Our rabbit seems to wee and poo more than any rabbit I've known. The hutch is a nightmare to clean now, the wee just soaks into the wood.DS July 2003, DD1 January 2005, DD2 August 2008

I used to use a litter tray in mine Chell, I just put it where they did the loo most and changed it daily, worked a treat!

We tried that when we first got the hutch, he wouldn't use it. He now wees all over the hutch. He used to stick to one area but now he does it everywhere.

Sorry ladies realised I never replied to the latter responses. Eve has decided she wants a guinea pig now so we are holding on....
