Anyone had re-occuring urine infections and a bladder scan?
DD2 has had her second stinker of a water infection and has been floored again for days.
Shes been having wetting issues for around a year now so we have been reffered for a bladder scan.
What happens? and what are they looking for? and what can they do to help if they find there are issues?
Thanks x

Re: Anyone had re-occuring urine infections and a bladder scan?
Well we spent two hours in the hospital to talk about Ava's history (one UTI by the way) before even being referred on to the bladder scan which we're having on Friday. It's an ultrasound of the full and empty bladder and associated bits to make sure everything is flowing the way it should and there is no scarring I believe. We've also got to be called for a blood test involving some dye three months after then infection because she had a raised temp for a good four days (first antiB's were not the right type).

Re: Anyone had re-occuring urine infections and a bladder scan?
I had reflux of the bladder when I was younger, I had every bladder test known to man - including the dye test. When I had it (30 odd years ago) I believe they placed a catheter and injected dye directly into my bladder, I was on a bed that tilted upright and I then had to pee into the clear plastic pants I was wearing, a screen showed how much I was peeing and whether I was clearing the bladder. I ended up having an op when I was about 10.
I have very vague memories about it all, but my mum is here t'row so shout if you think of anything to ask xMum to 2 beautiful girls
and a handsome little man

Re: Anyone had re-occuring urine infections and a bladder scan?
I did when I was in my late teens/early 20s I was an an outpatient in the urology ward @ Nottingham City Hospital
. Every weekend I would end up with cystitis really bad & passed blood & eventually clots (sorry TMI
) it was soo painful & The Oasis stuff did nothing for me...I lost my appetite so wasn't drinking much either & as such I wasn't flushing it out of my bladder quickly enough
After being given numerous doses of antibiotics I was eventaully prescribed some super strength Tylenol to help with the pain when I had an attack.
ETA: I also had an ultrasound on my bladder ( I had to drink at least 2 pints of water - not easy when you're desperate for a wee) After the ultrasound I had a kidney/Bladder X-Ray.

DS2 had repeated UTIs in his early teens, and had an ultrasound of his bladder, which found nothing abnormal.

Re: Anyone had re-occuring urine infections and a bladder scan?
Thanks all. Peony sounds like your pct are on the ball, Roxy gets them and has a temp for days and lies there listless or sleeping for ages. I get so worried about her but luckily I knew what to look for this time.
Im not convinced she can fully empty her bladder at every wee, but I know sometimea shes just lazy.
Hopefully we will get the appt through quickly.

Re: Anyone had re-occuring urine infections and a bladder scan?
DD did last year. They found nothing wrong with her bladder but connected it to her problems with constipation, which was caused by holding on to her poos too long. It did right itself once she stopped doing that. She had one infection last year but I think she wasn't drinking enough when it was hot. GP agreed.

Re: Anyone had re-occuring urine infections and a bladder scan?
Okay, just come back from the scan. The sonographer looked at full bladder, kidneys and a quick look at the tummy (where Ava's dinner was making a smiley face
). She was very ticklish around the kidney area and enjoyed the experience. We were sent for a wee and re-scanned. In Ava's case you could definately see the bladder was empty so if your daughter isn't emptying then it will probably be evident from the scan.

Dd2 had an xray dye test to check for reflux 6 weeks after spending 12 days in hospital with a kidney infection. Went much better than i was expecting, the staff were great. She had an ultrasound of her kidneys while she was in hospital. Hope all goes well for you and roxanne
