    Quick help!

About a month ago a friend asked me if I would go to her after school club (she runs it) and teach dance. She'd take me there so I wouldn't have to pay petrol or parking charges and said around £6/7 per hour.

Everything has been prepared for tomorrow and she texts me tonight to say they will pay me £10 for the whole session 3:30pm till 5:30pm. Now I'm not happy with this and this is the second time they have done something like this?

Do I say I'm not prepared to do it for that price? or just do it?

What do you get out of it apart from the money? Would it be good advertising for something else you run?

Being paid £10 for 2 hours is £5 per hour. For us, we would lose 40% of that in tax credit wirhdrawals even though I don't pay tax (assumign you declare it). So are you working for £3 per hour?

I'm not saying no, but if you want to do this to make a bit of extra money, then now is the time to raise it. £6 per hour would only be £12 so if you were happy for that then I suspect you are not doing it for the money.

That hasn't helped has it? I'm just looking at the financial facts. I run toddler music sessions and don't make much money, but I am doing it now as a learning experience to see if I can make a proper go of it once the little one starts school, so for now the money doesn't matter. I wouldn't work all week for those rates though.

Maybe text her back and say 'you mentioned £7 per hour before, so that would be £14'. I dn't think these things should be sorted by text, but maybe she knows she is being cheeky so that is why she told you by text. In that case you could reply in kind.

I'd text back and say you agree £7 per hour so thats £14. Then ask her what time she is coming to collect you. I think she is pulling a fast one and abusing your friendship. Anyway, thats still cheap!

    Re: Quick help!

Thanks Cerise. I have said I will do it from £10 as she now has said it will only be from 3:30 till 5pm so if I was to get £7 per hour I'd only get around £11:50 as I'll be doing 1hr and a half. I will be giving up 3 hours of my time though. Also there will be 15 children there and previously I have been paid £1 per child so I am doing this quite cheap.

I might bring it up tomorrow. It's her Mum's company and I have worked with them before and they messed me about. I think this will be the last time I will do this.

It's not my main income and I do love doing it but I just hate being messed about.
