Re: Does anyone else's child put things in their mouth all the time?
Why do they do that?!? Bella has chewed right through the cuff of her school cardie, so that it's all unravelled and unmendable! She was always one for putting stuff in her mouth (tin foil and snails were memorable items!) and although she does it less now she is 8, it's still something she does. Thankfully, she doesn't chew her fingernails, but we have to keep her hair fairly short otherwise she constantly has it in her mouth.

DS chews his collars and his sleeves -and it's worse when he is slightly anxious bout something, so I think its a definite comfort thing. Drives me potty as he leaves tide marks on the clothing - ugh.

Ds at nearly 6 has started chewing his clothes, only happened since he lost a couple of baby teeth but he can't tell me why he does it so I'm not sure they are linked.

Yes Lucy does, she cant stop herself...frigging playdoh
, so we now have none in the house...plasticine doesn't work either as Ashley tries to chew that
.
She also chews the hair from one of her mermaid barbies, not bites, but more like sucks, she does the same to her school cardi's too & they end up sopping wet.

Re: Does anyone else's child put things in their mouth all the time?
My DS who is 8 in April does this all the time it drives me bl**dy mad. Tissues, bits of paper, small bits of lego, basically anything he can find. I give him gum to chew on to try and stop it, but I still find bits of dried chewed up tissue thrown all over, ie behind the sofa and even the tv. Ive tried to explain he will end up with a scabby mouth if he is chewing things other children have, but nothing deters him, he even lies about chewing stuff, saying he hasn't anything in his mouth when he quite cleary does, drives me mad

Jacob does this to some extent too. He's nearly 6. He just seems to like holding things near his mouth, by his lips. Sometimes it's in his mouth, but he doesn't tend to chew on things. He did have a muslin for sleeping (chewed on it) until about a year ago. Maybe it's connected to that.

All of mine are have a tendency to chewing (although it really isn't an issue for the 1 year old
) currently DD1 (6) is mainly chewing her school pencils, her teacher has to keep replacing them because, well, she's basically eaten them

Re: Does anyone else's child put things in their mouth all the time?
Glad to know I am not alone, my little DD never puts things in her mouth unless it is actually food. I don't really have to worry too much about her playing with little toys as she just plays with them. My nearly 6 year old on the other hand... it drives me nuts. I am always saying "get that out of your mouth".
When we go shopping she will lean in and put the trolley in her mouth! .. or lick the till area, or suck on her coat or chew her hair...
There is no end. Anything and everything goes in. I have watched her doing it and she doesn't seem to realise that she is doing it most of the time.

It drives me mental! I thought with three boys I could hand stuff down but he ruins all the tops!
