Can Anyone recommend an Overlocker?
DH wants to know what I would like for my birthday and I have always wanted one, but for some reason thought they were £800 plus. But, looking around today I have seen one in John Lewis for £199.
Does anyone have one? Would it be a waste to buy one that is not the best (£800 is out of the question, £199 will have to be birthday and Christmas together, but might be worth it)
I use my sewing machine a LOT and would use the Overlocker functions.
Aaargh. Any ideas/ suggestions?
TIA

Re: Can Anyone recommend an Overlocker?
I have a Janome one, it's brilliant, though ancient
.
Get a four thread, as opposed to a three thread, as this means you can sew a seam and overlock at the same time, whereas a three thread just overlocks (saves time with the four thread).
Is it this one?
Looks ok to me! Actually looks like the new version of mine...Minky, Big Princess T (16 March 2004) and ickle Princess T (25 July 2007).

I am thinking of getting one (hmm, birthday present idea?) and I asked about out on thesewingforum.co.uk, have a look on there and you'll find loads of advice.

Oh thanks, Minky and Dr S. yes, it is the Janome one I was looking at, I can only find positive reviews and i just thought it was all a bit too good to be true - I can't think now where I got the idea they were over £800. Lovely, will check out that forum too. Thanks again!

Minky it sounds like we have the same one
mine is a 3 thread but to be honest its never posed a problem as I have a seperate sewing machine, I also have a seperate embroidery machine, all of them Janome and all reliable and easy to use. Dynamo that looks really good, my friend is an area manager for Janome would you like me to message her and ask if she recommends it, she is also an amazing seamstress so will give me her honest opinion ?

Re: Can Anyone recommend an Overlocker?
I've got that one I think. Janome 9200D.
This one also looks good and says it has a gathering foot too for £50 more... not sure of other differences tbh:

I haven't used mine loads I must say but that's due to just not having time to sew really. Haven't had any problems with it apart from it being a bugger to thread but I think they all are tbh.

Re: Can Anyone recommend an Overlocker?
This is what my friend from Janome said
"The 9200 in J Lewis is an excellent overlock. Its the same as the 9300 you can find in stockists shops, but the 9300 has extra feet that come with it, hence the price difference. If she is going to be using it alot, the 6234xl, is a stronger, faster model (£399)"
Hope this helps ?

Re: Can Anyone recommend an Overlocker?
Might be worth the 9300 if you did think you might use the extra feet. I'm after a ruffler for my sewing machine and they are £30!
