    Anyone ever lost their Mirena???

Went for a smear this week and the nurse couldn't find my Mirena (had it five years now), so saw the doctor for an internal exam and he can't find it anywhere...it has disappeared!

Have to go the hospital next week to have an ultrasound to try to find out where it is has gone and then they will decide what to do depending on where it actually is.

I didn't think that they could just get "lost"?

As it happened to anyone else, or am I just weird?

My sister did. I would advice taking extra contraceptive precautions for a while hon. She got pregnant and when the baby was delivered, they never did find the coil.

Thanks Roseyposey, yes the doctor has told me to take extra precautions as we think we know when it went missing - I had a bleed two weeks ago which I don't normally get on the Mirena so it is possible it went missing then.....of course I've had a lot of sex since then as well typically!!! To early to do a test I think (am not sure when I would get an accurate result?).

Amazing that they never found the coil with your sister - it sort of freaks me out to think that it could be flying around inside me.

Tekk - hanging out??? I'd faint!

My iud did this ! Just decided to reject itself after over a year of having it! It was almost bent double when she yanked it out . . I had some spotting and cramps between periods with it for a couple of months previously but no major pain

I had a copper coil fitted which fell out two weeks later!! I found it in my vagina when I was changing a tampon.

I've had another fitted a few weeks ago and it seems to still be in place

    Hope they find it

Mine went awol and i got sent for an US it was there but the string had been cut a touch too short and had disappeared up somewhere i had to have an injection of local anaesthetic in to my cervix for them to retrieve it, it sounds worse than it was tbh a little uncomfortable granted but no worse than any smear i have had.

Thats good to hear Magpie - am not worried about any pain in removal or anything as I have a freakishly high pain threshold and ended up without anaesthetic for 32 stitches so I think I can handle a bit of pulling or whatever - as long as they find it and it doesn't puncture my abdomen (yes I stooopidly googled!) I don't mind.

Yes mine went missing in the same way. Couldn't find the string.

I went for an ultrasound scan and it was exactly where it should be. I ended up wanting rid anyway so went to hospital for them to try and remove it with a delightful long instrument thing but after several attempts couldn't 'grab' it. Was pretty painful them trying too tbh.

Ended having to have it removed under GA as a day case which was stress free.

The nurse initially did say they can just come out sometimes without people noticing and there are rare cases of them escaping from the uterus into the body cavity but I think that's very rare. And would imagine if that is the case they will pick it up on the US.
