    BMW 5 series 56-58-ish plate

Anyone got one/had one? I changed my car last Easter and I hate it. I have a diesel Scenic and while it is the most fantastic family car, runs on fresh air, ridiculous amount of space inside blah blah it's so fecking boring it's untrue. I had a Passat before that DH made me trade in because it was dying and I loved that car so much. He wanted me to have 5 series estate then, he has the older model with the angel eyes headlights that is just so fab to drive, but I had collywobbles about getting a RWD car and doing winter country roads (DH managed every day through the last 2 winters but he is a *very* highly trained driver, though he insists it's just down to common sense) and now I really wish I hadn't been such a spud about it. I've been looking on the Autotrader website etc and there are some gorgeous 525d and 530d estates about and I'm seriously considering changing my car now.

Any comments, good or bad? I don't know anyone who has this model

DH has the 525d (58 plate) and hates it. Driving in the snow last year really put him off and he said he'd never have another rwd car.

It guzzles diesel (but that may be more about DH's heavy feet than economy!) and it keeps on developing a fault re the tyres, where it tells him he needs a tyre replacing/puncture when he doesn't - the people who come out to the car when it does this say it's a common fault.

I feel really low in it when I drive but that's coz I'm short and I know you're not!

It was truly awful in the snow.

Not much help am I? :)

The snow is what bothers me, especially after last winter, but that's probably because the news cameras always film some BMW driver spinning and sliding into oblivion. That said last winter they showed a 4x4 on its sidef on a straight road and a very embarrassed driver standing by There was a policeman in a 5-series on tv recently, in deepish slushy snow and ice who pulled off at speed and turned 180 degrees with perfect control, DH swears it's just light feet and common sense but I still have this fear of being the BMW driver with the spinning wheels He reckons that becaue I would have an SE (don't like the sport ones) the higher profile tyres would make it a bit better in the snow.

I like driving DH's, I like the lowness and the decent engine, it's so quiet and I don't get bullied when I'm driving that unlike the Scenic. And I like the noise the engine makes

It's daft really because we get snow once in a blue moon and that's the only thing stopping me
