    Feminax Ultra/Naproxen & paracetamol?

I have a splitting headache and period pain. I don't get period pain often and have found some Feminax Ultra in the cupboard but it's without the packet or information leaflet but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have paracetamol in it too.

If I take the Feminax, will it help my headache as well or would you take some paracetamol too? I don't really want to wait to see if *might* work IYKWIM, the sooner I can take something the better judging by the way I'm feeling.

Maybe I should just try some paracetamol first? I don't know, my head's not really functioning very well tonight

    Re: Feminax Ultra/Naproxen & paracetamol?

I've just found something that says naproxen is often used for tension, hormonal headaches and migraines so I'm going to give it a go on it's own and then take some paracetamol later on if necessary.

    Re: Feminax Ultra/Naproxen & paracetamol?

My husband suffers with tension headaches and is prescribed Naproxen for them. They make him a bit queasy though if he takes them on an empty stomach - apparently this is quite a common side effect, just so you know.

    Feminax express is ibuprofen
    feminax ultra is naproxen
feminax period pain is paracetamol and codeine.

I find paracetamol much more effective for headaches. Plus a side effect of non-steroidals is headaches!

Why doesn't that surprise me Faith?

I took the Feminax ultra an hour ago now and my head is still pounding so I'm going to go ahead with some paracetamol I think. I've just had a bowl of rice and dhal with the tablets (comfort food!) saffy so for no nausea

    Re: Feminax Ultra/Naproxen & paracetamol?

Found this topic while I was looking online about feminax and thought I'd share a few things for people who are confused about the various types of this drug.

    Feminax Ultra contains Naproxen
    Feminax Express contains Ibuprofen
Feminax Peroid Pain (discontinued label in the UK) contains Paracetamol and Codeine (same ingredients as co-codamol)

Naproxen and Ibuprofen are NSAIDs (non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs.) They are good at relieving various types of pains, especially sports injuries, joint and muscle pains, and helps reduce inflammation. However these drugs should be avoided by people suffering from stomach ulcers or other stomach related conditions and should not be taken over a long period of time as they can cause irritation of the stomach lining. They must also be taken in limited doses by people who have had kidney transplants and only with doctors' advice.

Paracetamol is a standard painkiller used for most types of pain. It also helps reduce fever. However it is also toxic to the body and if taken over a very long peroid of time or taken in overdose can result in serious organ damage, or even death. It can also be addictive if taken over a long peroid.

Codeine is an opioid which contains traces of morphine. No more than the stated dose must be taken otherwise it can cause comatose. It can cause problems if taken over a long peroid of time such as constipation, abdomen cramping, and rebound headaches. It can also be addictive if taken over a long peroid of time.
