Money saving in January?
Anyone on board? I really need to get out of the habit of just spending all the time
so going to do some serious meal planning and budgeting and also hoping for lots of no-spend days - anyone else in a similar situation?

I'm on board! Meal planning less eating out less clothes splurges!
literally I went to corner shop yesterday brought three sandwiches (had sandwich ingredients at home) four magazines! choc bars for kids (who still have selection boxes) and a lipsyl!
I'm broke already I got to sort it out
I spend everyday out of habit and now suffering

Re: Money saving in January?
Yes, we are on cutbacks as DH job uncertain.
Watching what I spend at Tescos, a list and only buy what we need (ie we dont need chocolates and treats)
No popping out to boots to buy make up and no browsing online sites for clothes.
Im also trying to save £50 per month instead of the £30 I was last year.
Good luck to us all and keep those wallets shut

Re: Money saving in January?
Me! I am trying to spend less than £60 on groceries a week in Jan and have meal planned for the month. No frivoloties here as I have a tax bill to pay as well as the balance of our Easter holiday, so 2 nice chunks of cash to find. This year I am saving weekly for my tax - I got a bit slack about it last year

Re: Money saving in January?
I will join you , I am trying to keep my spend for food down to £70 total each week but some weeks I do spend less as DP does lates every other week and I have my tea at my mum's on the days she has them when I'm working so I aiming for a total monthly spend of £280 -£300 on food.
I need to start putting aside money for Rubes birthday in April as we are having a joint party with one of the little boys from Ruby's class and we are planning on buying new car seats for both the children it is a bit off faff moving the seats from our car to my mum's when she has them but DP has some overtime this week so that will pay for those.

Re: Money saving in January?
Me too. We lose a chunk of our income from next week onwards so this month it's necessary stuff only, til MrB knows whats happening at work. I have to buy lunchboxes for the kids and 5 presents for parties this month
, pay a bit off our new fridge-freezer when the bill comes in, and then just groceries. No eating out!
On the upside we're due a refund from switching our utilities, plus £60 or so from Quidco. I'm eBaying some stuff atm too, try to make a bigger dent in the bill for the fridge. And just sold his motorbike so won't have to renew the insurance either.

Re: Money saving in January?
Me, I'm in. i think doing WW will help, didn't buy any alcohol this week for a start, which kept the shopping bill down. Meal planning also makes such a difference, I've noticed that in this first week alone.
I've opened a new account and set up a standing order for £10 towards Christmas 2012. might do another one for £5 a week towards Christmas food, as I'm online shopping at Sainsburys instead of going to Morrisons and collecting their saving stamps like i did last year.
We're also still on the mortgage free quest and have a monthly overpayment organised for that. Didn't overpay anything last month what with Christmas expense.
