T&T red cabbage recipe
I've never made red cabbage before, but fancy it for this year.
Was happy to buy that ready made Asda one, but my local isn't stocking it. So I've bought a red cabbage instead!!
Any quick easy recipes? Or something that can be made/mostly made the day before?

I think nigella has a recipe for spiced braised red cabbage which is lovely.
However, after all these years I've come to the conclusion that simpler is better, and my "recipe" is to shred cabbage, dump in saucepan, add good knob of butter and salt/pepper. Turn heat up and put lid on saucepan, give this 5ish mins with the lid on shaking very frequently. No water
and it steams with a buttery flavour.

Simple is what I'm looking for. So do you wash the shreded cabbage, and so the water that is left on it helps the steaming process?

Re: T&T red cabbage recipe
I put in a good lump of butter - melt it - finely chop a couple of onions, a garlic clove and a couple of cooking apples slowly cook them in the butter for aboutt 10 minutes.
Sprinkle on a teaspoon of cinnamon half a teaspoon of nutmeg three dessert spoons of brown sugar, the same of red wine or cider or white wine vinegar (whatever is handy!) finally add the cabbage and if you have it a glass of apple juice or cider or water.
Leave it to cook for a good hour (or bung it in the slow cooker to cook). At the end of the cooking time add salt to it and the cabbage will get its red colour back again.
This is tried and tested and delicious - just make sure you only have enough liquid to steam it - you dont want it boiling away like you would cook normal cabbage!CaroCaro

Yes I wash the cabbage but drain well so there's not much water on at all.

Mine is similar to caro's but I don't cook it for that long!
