    Thanks LR!

ugh I've woken up at 5.30 every morning this week and its just not good! I think it's probably because of the daylight coming through the curtains - Will try and get some blackout lining today I think as i'm getting really tired. I wake up then I get really hungry and a biscuit won't fill the gap so I have to get up and have a bowl of cereal but then i'm wide awake. Then because I'm tired I feel nauseous! Raaaaarrr!

Looking beautiful Posie and the nursery is awesome! Great giraffe and yes- lots of nappies I have just bought 100 newborn nappies on Amazon for £10 which I guess will last us about 10 days!!

Hi Peri- I have spent time in Kingston hospital and they were lovely!-My boss took me to the Jasmine ward when I thought that I was having a miscarriage. Glad you are feeling a bit better Bubba about hospitals. Wonderful info about staying in hospital Peridot- massive thanks. I can't imagine being in a room with 4 ladies and 4 newborns- surely NO-ONE frigging sleeps!!! My Mum has offered to pay for a private room although I think it was because her friend did the same for her daughter. I guess it will only be for a night or two!

Awseome pictures Bubbasweet Are they still images or do you actually see her move in 4D? I had a quick 4D piccie at the 20 something week scan but have forgotten if it was still or a moving image! I love her hair

The 30 week thing gave me a bit of a jolt too. I had lunch with my best mate yesterday, we talked about what I should say to the consultant next week and about the birth and I ended up in tears. Happy tears but a bit scared too As I found out that I was pregnant only several weeks before my Dad died i kind of feel that the birth will be closing the door slightly on him and opening a door to the new life inside me? That probably makes no sense at all. Rambling pregnant lady

Rubbish for the 5.30am awakenings Bubbasweet Is it needing to wee or hunger that is waking you up? In the evening I have started to 'cluster feed' myself so have dinner at 7pm, dessert at 8.30pm, yogurt at about 10pm and then Alpen at about 10.30pm. I have an oatcake or bunch of grapes beside my bed so that I can just eat 1/2 asleep if I wake up early. Last night I did 3 wee trips which is dam annoying but managed to get back to sleep quite fast. Still feel pants in the morning though Will we ever have a good nights sleep again?

Am reading The Baby Whisperer at the moment- quite interesting about different 'types' of babies. Hopefully I will produce a 'text book' one although I suspect not! Apparently I was a rascal and didn't sleep through the night until i was about 4

    Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**

I was thinking how good it would be to have a private room until I looked up the prices You can get a night in a decent hotel for less

£200 for amenity room with en-suite bathroom
£130 for upgraded amenity room and bathroom shared with one other room
£85 for a single room using the shared ward facilities

What do you suppose 'upgraded' means?

Re: the images, it's just an image rather than a video, so it's only 3D. The sonographer explained it to us, that in 3D mode, the scanner sends out the sound waves and assigns a colour to each wave depending on how long it takes to bounce back (ie: distance away) and the further away the darker the colour, which is how you get the image.

I have no idea what is waking me up I do usually need to wee when I wake at that time (and at other times in the night ) but then I get back into bed and I just lay there knowing that any second now my stomach is going to rumble and I'm going to have to get out of bed. Every time, though, I lay there willing myself to go back to sleep instead I managed to go back to sleep this morning and woke up at about 8.30am in the middle of a rather raunchy dream Been feeling quite frisky lately but with the ongoing thrush issues (sorry TMI) and the SPD, nothing has been done about it

Perhaps I'll have a go at cluster-feeding myself. The last time I didn't wake up hungry in the night was the night before my GTT, and I ate two dinners that night

I've also ordered Baby Whisperer. I read Gina Ford (I know she's a bit controversial!) and some of her ideas seemed to make sense to my naive mind - treating night feeds as night feeds rather than switching on the light, blackout curtains, having a proper getting up time and bed time, feeding regularly to get your milk supply up in the early weeks etc. I'm not sure that much of a routine would work with a very young baby, but I could see how you could apply some of the principles to an older baby, although I expect most babies naturally fall into a routine of some description as they get a bit older? The one thing I wasn't sure of was that she advocates waking a sleeping baby to feed them. Now the one thing everyone has said to me is NEVER WAKE A SLEEPING BABY!

    Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**

Ds1 was a text book Gina fore baby (although I was lucky in some ways as the good thing about him being in nicu is that he came out in a 4 hourly routine) and was sleeping through by 7 weeks and sleeping 7-7 by 9 weeks - bliss!
ds2 on the other hand had absolutely no interest in any routine what so ever And just did what he wanted, he fed hourly for the first 4 months And slept through for the first time when he was 10 months old (we were in Cyprus and the heat made him sleep so well) although these days he sleeps for 13 hours a night, so I can't complain!

Oooh the upgraded rooms are a new thing bubba, I have a consultant appnt at st.peters on 1 may so will ask them about these rooms (must actually remember) I just had a single amenity room with Thomas with a sink in it and used the shared bathrooms although they'd bunged me so far away from everyone else (which is wha I wanted as I didn't have T with me) that I more or less had to myself.
Annoying thing about a csection is that you have to spend at least 12 hours on the normal ward as you are being monitored... So I guess I'll have to see what happens.

Amy I think that makes complete sense about your dad, I'm sure he would be delighted that you have a new focus ... Are you planning on using any of his names with your son?

He basically slept in bed with us, It was literally the only way I could cope with it, we'd put him in the middle, we've gt those temper pillows that kind of acted like a way to block him in and our bed is huge so there was room for him and we'd just keep the duvet away from him. I learned by quickly how to feed lying down so each hour would just latch him on and fall back to sleep whilst doing it.
i know this really isn't ideal for a lot of people, trust me, it wasn't my ideal but I think it helped that he was so big as phyisically he advanced quite quickly and was able to push away once he'd finished etc from a really young age.
its very bizarre, feeding whilst you've been asleep as you wake up feeling although you've slept but done some aerobics at the same time

Looking back, I was diagnosed with hypo thyroid when he was 7 months old and there are lots of links between this disorder and possibly not producing enough milk (also not being able to go into labour naturally) so I do wonder if that is why.. I don't think I'd go through the same again though...I was just very determined to succeed because I had been able to breast feed Thomas.

Just popping in quickly to post this link, I had totally forgotten about it, but I had read it ages ago and sent it to my chum. She has recently sent it to her miss perfect sil who is 24 weeks pregnant (and has spoken to her personal trainer about her post baby workout plan already) to scare the bejesus out of her! I was giggling away there reading it:) I hope I do t get in trouble for posting a link to another forum? But it it hilarious :nods:

    Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**

Thank you Superkat for cheering me up on a dull 11 hr shift at work!

Never called them fanjo flaps before *sniggers like a school girl*

Didn't sleep at all last night- OH was absolutely lovely- I couldn't do this without him. He have me big hugs and didn't get mad that I woke him up 4 times and then we both couldn't get back to sleep for hours FIL who is staying with us to help doing DIY yipped at us all through brekkie and I really wanted to stab him

Feeling slightly guilty that I had a bit of a pregnant lady Rarrrrrr at work... I work in a studio with about 8 people. On Saturdays there is a 9th person- a Freelancer who this morning came in with full blown flu. He was sniffing and coughing and was surrounded with tissues and lemsip! The thought of 11 hrs in a room with him really made me a bit as I suffer from asthma and ended up in hospital the last time I got a cold.

I asked my boss if he could work in a different room to us and he was utterly lovely moving him straight away. I did point out that I couldn't take cold medicine plus I really didn't want to take any more time off sick. Did feel a bit guilty at being a diva but they not that I'm not like that.

Thanks Peri for the lovely comments about my Dad, I would love to use his name but perhaps as a middle name.

Bubbasweet on the friskiness. I would dearly love to fling off my clothes and bonk OH to bits but I might end up in a wheel chair if I do . Will see how I am after the Ante-natal Osteopath on Friday

Is it true that Gina Ford doesn't have children? and basically tells you at what time to put on your pants in the morning. My best friend was very scathing of her.

Hope everyone is having lovely weekends.

I don't think you were a diva Amy - I bet everyone else was hoping they didn't catch his cold either sorry you didn't sleep well last night - I hope today isn't too hard for you Hope you manage to figure out a solution to the friskiness It's not really a legs closed activity is it

Gina Ford is indeed not a mother. I tend to look at it from the POV that no she's not an expert from a parental POV, but then I doubt many brain surgeons have ever had brain surgery Having read the book I honestly didn't read anything horrifying at all in terms of the way she suggests structuring your day. From what I'd heard people say about it I was expecting to read all sorts of draconian things but didn't n She's written a book she's presumably intending will help parents. She does say to be up and dressed ready to feed the baby for 7am, but she also says start the day at 8am if you want to. I think 7am is chosen because if you've got to get up for work, school etc., you're probably going to be getting up around then anyway, and if you're dressed before the baby wakes up then you're less likely to still be in your pyjamas when your DH gets home from work that evening (I SO will be doing that but hopefully not answering the door to visitors with a boob hanging out like my SIL did!!)

I think perhaps where people get upset is that she's a little opinionated about some aspects of the way many people parent - she doesn't agree with feeding on demand for one thing, but at the same time she adds that her routines are designed to make sure the parent knows what the baby needs before the baby knows him/herself IYSWIM. It's not anything too terrible Of course if your baby wants to do everything she says babies shouldn't do, or if you're not keen on the idea of a formal routine, then I can see why people don't like her methods... And of course, it is just one POV of how to raise a child

We got quite a few things at the NCT nearly new sale this morning - some clothes, a gro-bag, pram parasol, foot muff (although not 100% sure it'll fit but it was only £3), some pram toys. We also stopped at Tescos as we'd heard a rumour they were selling proper Gro-Bags for £5 each, but couldn't see any We got some Huggies instead with some vouchers we had (free pack of size 1, and £2 off another pack so we bought size 2). Then we stopped at Waitrose for something for lunch and they had Lansinoh nipple cream for £6.50 ish instead of £10 Lots of bargains!

    Me too - great link

One of oscars middle names is my dads name Amy (he died when I was a child) I like that he can be remembered in that way especially as our children have surnames from the dads side.
also don't think you're being a diva, flus the last thing you want, specially being asthmatic!

Yes, some of the Gina ford routine is very regiment, I kind of took from it what I needed, which was basically how much milk to feed Thomas (which is why I think it's difficult to follow with a breast fed baby) and times of the day for them to have feeds and naps. When I started it Thomas basically slept 3 hours out of 4 and fed 1 hour out of 4 so it made it easier to follow. Oscar didn't really start napping in the day for longer than half an hour till he was 4ish months, and point blank refused from birth to be swaddled.
I think baby whisperer is supposed to be almost a more gentle version...might see if my library has it.

Picked up our pushchair from the lovely spandangly today.. Feels really weird to think they'll be a little person in it soon

    Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**

That thread made me laugh so much - I do love mumsnet for a bit of irreverence!! I could relate to so much on there; particularly the bad wind (tarnishing silver from 20 metres!!) and the crash position

I'm another supporter of Gina Ford here...I based Lily's eating and sleeping times on her book from 6 weeks old, and it really helped give me something to base it all on. So, when Willow came along she fitted straight in to that routine as well. I think you need to take what you need from her - and ignore what you don't. I breastfed with her routines - but I didn't express like she suggested, and I didn't eat toast when she said either Funnily enough, many of the people who condemn her haven't actually read her books...

I also found the Baby Whisperer interesting - listening for the different types of crying etc. I think you need to find what works for you as a parent - it might not work for somebody else, but happy parent, happy baby etc, etc.

This time round, I would like to be slightly more relaxed about it all - although I'm not really that type of person (!) But i have a feeling the 3rd child will just fit in around the rest of the family.

Sounds like you got some great bargains Bubba! I'm looking forward to starting my shopping in a week, as I'm about to embark on my last week of work - woo hoo!

Amy - I don't think you were being diva-like...just pregnant and concerned...

We've had a lovely weekend as it's our first wedding anniversary today, so we went away for the night last night on our own! Probably be the last time we do it for a while, but it was lovely and sleeping until 8.30 this morning, without being woken up by a small body was pure bliss (as was the all over pre-natal body massage I had yesterday...)

Peri - we're pushchair shopping next weekend...reality is stating to set in!!!

Happy anniversary Posie How lovely to have a night away and get a lie-in. Massage sounds nice too - I was thinking the other day that I might go for one

Well our pushchair has been ordered. SIL works for Waitrose so gets a 25% discount at John Lewis, so we saved about £100 on it all, which is always nice! We went for the Baby Jogger City Mini in the end, 4-wheeled version and we also got the carrycot bit that fits in. We got the red one http://www.babyjogger.co.uk/citymini4wheel.html I also got two change mats in Sainsburys on Saturday evening (my rock and roll saturday night out ), £5.99 each, which is certainly a lot cheaper than I've seen them in Mothercare and such like - about £15

Hope everyone had a good weekend. We finally got all the wallpaper stripped in the nursery and the carpet taken up. DH is going to filler all the rawl plug holes today. Also had MIL, FIL, SIL and DH's grandma round for lunch yesterday, which was nice, although I'd been feeling quite rough all morning (was very nearly sick several times) so when they arrived I was unwashed and still in my pyjamas with mad hair

The massage was AMAZING - it was a pre-natal Clarins one. I think I'm going to book another one for my maternity leave...

Very exciting to have ordered your pushchair - I really want to get ours sorted, if only to have the car seat ordered as well, so we have that ready for whenever the little one makes an appearance.

I hope the sickness isn't returning in earnest Bubba - I tend to feel a bit sick in the evenings, and if I leave it too long between eating...

On the countdown to having some time off work - although they're working me hard this week to ensure the handover with my agencies is complete. I've also somehow managed to offer to be on the end of my phone if they need me...hmmm.

    Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**

So much to catch up on. Bubba, love the scan pics.

We went for my gi-normababy scan on Friday and as suspected, she is indeed enormous and measuring 3 weeks ahead. Got a glucose tolerance test on Friday so I can waste 2.5 hours of my life - still, might get some OU study done. Am not too concerned - the poor thing would appear to have DH's build and tummy (East Mids farming stock) combined with my sturdy legs and her uncle's colossal height.

We've finally got out of the rented house. Had a mammoth gardening effort yesterday. I mowed the lawn, did some weeding, tackled the patio etc so the place now looks so much better than it did when we moved in anyway. House is empty, immaculate and scrubbed clean so will be livid if they dare to withhold any of our deposit. Think I overdid it though as was shuffling like an old granny last night - can't wait to see the chiropractor and get crunched again next Friday.

Did the first NCT class on Sunday. Think DH found it much more useful than me, although there was a consultant anaesthetist in our group (who interestingly has opted to go straight for c-section, like most medical people I know of) who was interesting to talk to. One of the other couples lives in our village too, so no doubt I'll be bumping in to her regularly soon.

    Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**

Urgh sorry you've got to have the GTT. Not pleasant! Did they give you an estimated weight? I will keep my fingers crossed that you get your deposit back. The last rented place I lived in (shared with a couple of friends) we spent two days scrubbing the place and it was immaculate but the land lady still deducted £75 each because it apparently needed to be professionally cleaned

How do medical people get to choose to do these things when the rest of us can't My cousin is also an anaethetist (in Australia) and his wife is some sort of consultant nutritionist person, and she went straight for a c-section too for both her pregnancies, and he also thought it was the best decision... Interesting!

Bet your NCT lady loved having a pro c-section person in the class We had the pain relief session at our NCT class last night and the tutor tied DH up with lots of bits of red string to indicate how restrictive an epidural was Each bit of string represented a fetal heart monitor, cannula, catheter etc.

Had my 31 weeks appointment this afternoon with the GP. Everything was fine - even the bump is measuring about right too - 32 weeks, so it's not actually grown in the last month. The doctor said to keep an eye on it to make sure it didn't start going the other way, ie. being too small Baby has definitely grown, though. I can feel she's taking up more space in there. I can't do anything without an elbow or a bottom poking my ribs

Posie, I'll have to see if there's anywhere near me that does those massages.

    Hope everyone else is ok?

    Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**

Oooh that's good news about growth bubba
Arent they supposed to be bringing in a right to choose if you want a csection now? Suppose they'll always try and convince you otherwise though.
lol about the epidural, I suppose it's true, I think once you have an epi you have to accept that, that's it you'll be giving birth lying down and more than likely with some assistance...but it so hard to know how you'll feel, I just wanted to be able to catch my breath, in an ideal world it would be nice to cope without once though... The thought of the actual process makes me want to throw up

Fingers crossed for your deposit Eliza.

Posie, feeling very jealous of your massage, will have to look into that... My shoulders are so achey! And happy 1st anniversary :)

Feeling so up and down emotionally at the moment, pregnancy does the weirdest things to you! Stressing with schools for Thomas and house stuff, hoping to exchange ASAP!

Heres a updated pic of me, double the size of the rest of you And only 29 weeks
