Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**
I know magpie, I would love to have a scan every 4 weeks
Actually with both of mine I've had quite a lot of scans, last time I had 7 in total, 1 at 12 weeks, 2 at 16 for foetal heart then gender, 2 at 22 weeks as ds2 wouldn't get in the right position and 2 at 35&39 weeks to check position which was quite nice really.
considering getting a 3d one this time as this will def be our last baby and we haven't had one before, hard to justify the money though when there's so many other things we need. We have no cot/car seat/ pushchair etc as got rid of them after ds2

Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**
We went and had our scan, there is good news and not so good news!!
We saw our baby for ages, it was jumping around so much and the sonographer went over it really carefully - we were in there for ages.
With a private place they have more markers for Downs than the NHS which is why it takes so long. We got the results and they have discovered a tiny leak in the babies heart valve. There is a 95 % chance of this correcting its self but it could be a marker for Downs. (1 in 153). The Nuchal fold is tiny and nothing to worry about but the heart thing combined with my age (36) has alerted the clinic to the slightly than average chance.
So, they have advised us to do a CVS. Initially I didn't want it but when I realised that my reason not to was the actual needle rather than the results then we decided to go ahead. It is being done tomorrow by one of the top guys in this field. We always agreed that we would do tests if we had to.
The good news is that everything else looks perfect and they are 95 % certain that the bean is a boy
Sorry its not so great news but we will get the results on Friday (I'm not religious but will be praying so much) and then we can hopefully get back to normal.
And..... they moved the due date closer by a day! Not sure how I change the ticker!

Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**
Oh gosh lots of news Amy. I hope that everything goes well with the CVS - heart problems can mean any number of things I believe
I'll be keeping everything crossed for you!
I think you just have to do a new ticker rather than change it. That's what I did - only takes a few seconds!

Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**
Ahh Amy sending you lots of good luck vibes, good that the actual fold is tiny, hopefully that's a good sign and this will turn out to be "one of those things!"
Amazing that you know you are having a little boy already
I have read up a lot about the "nub theory" as I'd really like a girl this time and looking for anything I can find out. It seems really accurate, guessing this is how they worked it out. Did you get any photos? If you did I'd be interested to see if I could see the nub on yours. Bubba, I had a little look at yours, and I'm very new at it, so wouldn't take my word AT ALL, Plus I'm not 100% if what I saw was the nub, but I think I could take a guess a what you are having

Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**
I'm amazed you can see anything in there gretel
I just looked and can't make out anything between the legs
You have helped me make a decision though, as my first thought was that I didn't want to know! So looks as if it'll be a surprise baby
My gut feeling is girl, but everyone else is saying boy, mainly I think because they want it to be a boy - DH's parents already have four granddaughters!

Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**
I hate the pressure of gender between families, I feel enough pressure myself this time.
At this stage it's not anything specifically between the legs more the angle of it, I think I can see it in pic 3.. But will keep schtum, be interesting to see if I'm right tthough
How are you feeling this morning Amy, I was thinking about you last night, hope you were able to sleep okay x

Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**
Thankfully it's mostly joking about being a boy, but there's lots of "I hope it's a little boy, but I would obviously love a little girl too."
I just wonder what they want me to do about it
Plus I just keep thinking - "It's my baby so naff off and leave me be." (DH's too obviously
)
Amy, thinking of you today - hoping that everything goes ok

Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**
Sorry ladies not to come on earlier and post. Thanks for your thoughts too. Rough day but glad it's over.
Didn't sleep much and we had to call the clinic this morning to get a time- they kept saying "phone back in 1/2 and hour"
so I was a bit frazzled by the time we got there. We waited ages for Professor Kypros Nicolaides- the guy who runs the clinic and an leading expert in fetal medicine as he only does Wednesdays. Eventually we got taken, a doctor scanned us again and then the professor came in to do the CVS. he could tell that I was shitting myself and tried to chat to me. I wasn't up for much chat but my OH talked a bit to him. He looked at the scan, gave me an anasthetic in my tummy and then he must have done the test- they punch your stomach with the needle like they are bursting a balloon!! My best friend advised me NOT to look at anything but my OH's face and I was glad that I didn't as he told me after that the needle was about 10- 12 inches long
and looked quite gruesome!!!
Anyway I was really shaky so we left and after about 1/2 an hour I began to have a very sore tummy- they said that I would so we jumped in a taxi and went home. My OH has made me stay on the sofa with a duvet all day and I have just got up! Am pretty sore and have been taking paracetamol for the pain!
Very glad that we have had it done and get the results on Friday afternoon. The professor seemed pretty confident that things would be ok as the nuchial fold is fine but I just need that phone call
Hope you are guys are ok.

Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**
Thanks Gretel xx Get Downs results on Friday and 2 weeks for anything else abnormal.
Was amazed at how much the baby was wriggling and jumping! We have nicknamed it Larry the lamb!

Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**
Goodness Amy that sounds brutal! I hope you're not to sore
I've heard of that professor
Wishing you lots of luck for Friday xx
I had quite a reasonable sleep last night, the first in about a week. It's my last day at work today until the new year now, and I'm really looking forward to the time off! I wish the morning nausea would sod off, though. It is just first thing in the morning so not to bad.

Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**
Bless him...must be nice to see him like that... Everything crossed for all your results

live been sleeping really badly at night time, it's driving me crazy as my ds1 is generally up between 5&6
so I know I'll be knackered!
had a rare treat this morning of ds1 sleeping until 7 & ds2 until 8, dh is also off now which is nice.
I am completely off alcohol in this pregnancy which should make Christmas more bareable

Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**
You ought to go to bed earlier Gretel
I'm normally in bed by half 8 or 9 these days
yes no hangovers is good!
I've just bought two pairs of maternity trousers from Seraphine as they were in the sale. Indigo jeans, which were £35 (started at £45) and a pair of black cords, which were £29 (started at £35). They do free returns and the postage was only £1.95, so no harm done if I have to send them back. I wanted to go out and try loads on, but I just can't face going shopping whilst the sales are on
I hate it at the best of times

Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**
Any news Amy? Hope you're ok and not feeling too worried about it all

I'm so, so hungry today! I'm just about to have a second lunch - had a portion of cottage pie at half 12 but my tummy is rumbling again so going to have some more. I've been feeling pretty hungry for the last couple of days.

Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**

The clinic just called and there is no Downs/Cystic Fybrosis etc
I am so so so relieved and the last 2 days have been hell. My OH didn't sleep a wink last night.
Can now enjoy Christmas.
And its 100% a boy
(as long as it is well i really didn't care)
Unfortunately we got a call yesterday from the GP to say that Queen Charlottes is booked up so we have a meeting with him to discuss plan B next Wednesday.
Not overly worried as this good news is all I wanted.
Have really lovely weekends Bubbasweet and Gretel- the professor in the Fetal medicine clinic prescribed me a glass of red wine on Christmas day- he must have thought I was a right prude when I tutted
he is greek so perhaps they are slightly less strict about the odd glass of vino during pg.
Am off to lie down with relief!!

Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**
Ahhh that is brilliant news Amy, over the moon for you and as a mother of 2 boys I can tell you I love having boys, they love their cuddles and love exploring - congratulations. Praying all the other results come back all ok!
Will have to check that maternity line out, sounds good bubba! I know what you mean about going to bed early. I thin the problem I seem to have is climbing in with the boys for a cuddle at bed time, then falling asleep, waking up at 8.30 then up till really late! Luckily Ds1 seems to be lying in a bit with the crimbo holidays.
Think I'll have a glass of champagne on Christmas day or a bucks fizz... Can't get enough of orange things at the moment - funny how common OJ seems to be as a craving.
Amy, was queen charlottes where you were going to transfer to? Hope there is somewhere else close to you?

Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**
Aw boys sound awesome although I've only looked after baby girls so no idea how to deal with or wash there em winkles! I'm sure youll help with advice!
Ive been craving oj too- perhaps its the vitamin c?
Yes I wanted to go to queen Charlottes particularly if the baby has a wee heart valve problem to keep a check on (they do unusual cases) but a friend says uch may be an option?

Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**
I was exactly the same, only used to girls! I think it's different when it's your own baby though.. It's strange having something that totally belongs to you if you see what I mean!?
thats annoying, if you baby does turn out to have a valve problem, I wonder if QC's would reconsider? Hopefully uch would be a good option though.

Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**
Would you consider a home birth Amy? Just thinking if you can get through the antenatal care, crap as it may be, you could have the baby at home, or even just rock up at QC in full blown labour if you manage at home for long enough. If you're properly in labour they're unlikely to turn you away, surely?

So pleased you got the all clear
I got my results too, 1 in 710 chance of down's, which is miniscule, so pleased about that too!
Gretel, I love really fruity things - orange is good, but any really strong flavoured citrus/tropical fruit is amazing. Fruit flavoured sweets too! I've munch through a packet of Opal Fruits this afternoon.

Re: **Summer 2012 mummies!**
The maternity trousers I ordered arrived this morning (was rather surprised they came so quickly!) and they're fab. One pair is under the bump (black cords) and I'm wearing them right now. The jeans are over the bump, total comedy moment when I tried those on, as I don't have a bump to fill them out so the pouch bit came up over my boobs
I'm going to keep them but I won't be able to wear them for a while!
DH is in the doghouse this morning. He went out and got pissed last night and woke me up multiple times in the night snoring and flinging himself about. I had ear plugs in, but could still hear him
I was lacking in any sympathy when he threw up this morning!
