Has anyone made a pipe-able toffee flavoured buttercream/frosting?
I've just pulled a new recipe gingerbread cupcakes out of the oven, and I'm yearning to frost them with a toffee frosting, great big swirls of it!
Has anyone made one or got a recipe?

I've not tried it but my immediate thought was to make a buttercream with dulce de leche. Would that be toffee-ish enough?

I think it probably would. Good plan Janice, you think make the butter cream as usual and then just whizz some dulce de leche in it? OMG I think I'll end up eating the rest of the jar!

Just what I was going to say - makes fabulous toffee buttercream. If you thin a bit of the dulce out with cream/milk then you can drizzle it over the finished buttercream mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...................

I made some salted caramel buttercream for cupcakes for Sarah R's Camilles Appeal coffee morning!
It's 125g sugar heated with 60mls water until caramel coloured, then you add 80mls double cream and stir vigorously. Then add vanilla extract and 1tsp seasalt. Let it cool then mix into a regular buttercream.
It adds a wonderful sheen to the icing? And a really more ish salted caramel flavour.

Yum. I went to Sainsbury's to get some Dulce de Leche and "we don't do that anymore"
.
So I am going to try Marksies and if not, use a can of Nestle caramel, unless anyone thinks that won't work?
Lucy, that sauce sounds divine!

Oh absolutely a can of nestle caramel would work. If you're near an Asda they do it and also they do their own tube of squeezing toffee which is just fab!!

Che disastro

I had three cans of condensed milk in the cupboard, but no caramel
. Local tesco
other shop
so I made some caramel with a similar method to Lucy's above, which is now setting in to toffee
. But I did manage to add some before it was completely cool and made some buttercream.
Holy fecking hell. A.MAZE.ING.
I could eat a whole bowl of it!

TP I am going to check out that squeezing toffee, there is an Asda about a 20 min drive away, worth a visit I feel.
