Molloscum - has anyone found anything that genuinely works to clear it?
Iona's is just getting worse and worse
and she is very self conscious of it, understandably so. The largest area is on the inside of her elbow - probably around 20+ spots there, plus some on her tummy and some on her hand. Some of them are very big and look like warts/skin tags. We have been looking at Christmas party dresses and they all seem to be sleeveless and I was so
for her. Is it simply a waiting game? Is there really nothing that can be done?

DS saw the Dr and they said they don't treat it these days. It got a lot worse and his spots started to bleed. I spoke to the Dr again and he said again that it wouldn't be treated. DS has some really big spots on his back/tummy. The girls have some too but not as bad.
DS seems to have had them for such a long time now, well over a year. They hurt if he catched them.DS July 2003, DD1 January 2005, DD2 August 2008

Squeeze them
Controversial method to be sure but it got rid of all of my kids'. (they had them in the spring/summer until I squeezed them all)
They look ghastly for a week to 10 days but then they just disappear. I literally had to pin the down to begin with but as soon as they could see that it didn't hurt any more than a quick pinch and that they were going, they were fine with it (plus copious amounts of chocolate bribery :oops)
Really clean hands, sterilised tweezers, plasters and away you go.

Re: Molloscum - has anyone found anything that genuinely works to clear it?
I'm really sorry to say but for my two literally nothing worked and it was just a matter of waiting for them to go (although with DS1 and at least one other child I know it went shortly after they having chicken pox - no help if she's had it but worth hunting down a sufferer if not). For my 2 it wasn't too bad except in the heat of summer as boys don't tend to wear skimpy clothes anyway plus they were both quite young when they had it but can appreciate why your little girl is feeling so down about it. Bar suggesting a special shopping trip with mummy to buy some pretty cardies, I'm afraid I can only sympathise

I agree if you can then definitely do it as it cleared up my niece & nephews within a few weeks but doesn't always work: Harry's were much smaller to start so not squeezable then by the time they had grow big enough to 'pop' there were literally hundreds & waaaay too many to start attacking and then Oscar's were massive & after a bath when they were softer I would squeeze as many as possible but they just kept on coming for months and month and months

I did the same as Kat, think it was Faith that mentioned a theory about squeezing provoking the body into fighting the infection. It certainly worked with DS, literally only got a dozen or so spots over the course of a few days and has never come back, was amazed.

I just read about this:

Don't know if it's snake oil but maybe worth a look?

HI Noo Noo
I really feel for Iona,it's a horrible thing
.
If you do a search on here you'll see lots of similar posts from me. I tried the katkinn method, but there is no way Lulah would let me anywhere near her spots, she just freaked and try as I might I couldn't hold her down.
My friend in NZ recommended hooking out the little gunky bit in the middle, then cleansing and sticking plaster immediately as the blood will spread the virus. Unfortunately I didn't get that far.
I did get a homeopath to prescribe something. On the second dose, they started to go, who knows if the two things were connected. I only know I was bloody glad to see the back of them.
From memory it was well over a year.

Re: Molloscum - has anyone found anything that genuinely works to clear it?
I am just so scared of making it worse for her

I think I will have a chat with her and see if she will agree to let me try. Did you just do one or two at a time or go for the whole lot? From what I have read its best to do it after a bath. Have also seen wooden cocktail sticks suggested as a means of poking them. Did you put antiseptic or anything on after squeezing? I'm not actually sure if all of them would be big enough to squeeze.
Thanks everyone else for your input. Its such a horrid thing

Re: Molloscum - has anyone found anything that genuinely works to clear it?
C had them and TBH when I squeezed them she would scream and then they would spread anyway. So we waited it out :( but it was only for about 8 months or so and she didn't have them anywhere visible when clothed. It was horrible though.
