I have no idea why he shouts for me. I'm not exactly nice when I want my evening!

Oh I don't know
I'm hoping it passes.

Re: Short of tying him to his cot...
You're right, it could well be a phase. From about 18-21mths I'd be stood on the landing outside Declan's room, going in and out like a yoyo. He used to call out for me over and over again. I'd have to go in, place my hand on his back, say shhh and leave again. Some nights I'd be in just 3-5 times, other times I'd lose count and be up there for 30-40 mins.
Less disruptive than your DS escaping the cot, but still a PITA! He just suddenly stopped doing it, so hopefully yours will too.
If not, then a bed really may not be as bad as you think. Dec went in at 2 and loved it, we've never had a problem.
Keep us posted xx

Re: Short of tying him to his cot...
I have no real advice as Lucia has started begin terrible at sleeping recently too and I am on my knees with tiredness. I am seriously hoping it is a phase and doing my best to ignore/shush pat her where appropriate.
Has he been ill? Lulu's crap sleep seemed to stem from her being ill as I was cuddling her to sleep a bit as she was so poorly.

one sock. He has a slight cold just now. A bit of a cough and a snotty nose.
Last night he woke at 1am and hopped out of his cot. He then slept in my bed.
He was up for a while, coughing and messing then slept till 7am.
Im making the same mistakes i did with O, he was a nightmare!

So I have sort of cracked it. If I put him down and stay in his room by the door with my back to him, he'll stay there and go to sleep.
Now it's the night time. He has a cough so is having awful coughing fits in the night, so I'll wait for this to pass.
Although, I'm not entirely sure what to do in the nighttime
