Re: How to settle a young baby in the middle of the night?
Fangol that is it exactly!
Oana I'll check out the White noise app. It's got to be worth a go!
Thongs have not improved at all. I added in an extra feed during the day, plus a dream feed and he is STILL waking. I've decided that I'm going to start weaning. I'll take him to baby clinic tomorrow just to check with the HV that she agrees it is ok to wean. He is 22 weeks (I think....).
He will be six calendar months on 27th November.

BTW, a dreamfeed has never worked for me, with either of mine. No idea why but if I give one they still wake at the same time as when I don't. Sigh..... hope it gets better xxx

Re: How to settle a young baby in the middle of the night?
Just wanted to update this as we have had a wee bit of success thanks to the advice on here and from the health visitor.
Last Tuesday I went to see the HV and she said that I really should consider starting to wean him.
We started the minging baby rice and purees last Wednesday and today is the first day that he has really started to get into it.
I also started giving him an extra bottle feed during the day. He guzzled it down until the weekend when he started refusing it so we are currently back with the previous feeding schedule.
Since last Wednesday he has only woke up once.
I think it was a growth spurt combined with being ready for weaning.
I'm not comfortable that we have fixed his sleeping but my god getting a bit of sleep again is really nice.

I think you're right about the growth spurt and weaning. Long may the sleeping continue

Re: How to settle a young baby in the middle of the night?
Sorry TS meant to say 'confident'. I'm not confident we've fixed his sleeping as he woke at 1am and 5am last night. He just chuckled and blew raspberries at 1am so I tried to ignore him and after an hour he went back to sleep. When he woke at 5am he was yelling for food.
Ollie was just under 23 weeks when I started weaning. The HV said she thinks any time after five months is fine. For the first few days O was pushing his tongue out and i thought perhaps he wasn't ready after all but by the weekend he was much better eating from the spoon.

Ah, that makes sense. Started DS in 23w so going to do the same and see how see takes it.
Good luck, sounds like he is ready and doing well anyway.
