Re: First time flying to Oz, plus a 4 & 7 yr old - any tips?

The jetlag is an absolute bitch unfortunately. You're flipping your body clock entirely. The only thing I can suggest is to try not to sleep too much at the 'wrong' times and to try and get out in the daylight at the appropriate times. That will help!

Yeah I'm trying to imagine how I'd feel if I had to deal with that jetlag and first tri tiredness. I took a nytol when we arrived in Sydney, but that isn't really an option for you

We went this time last year and actually the jet lag was ok. We arrived in Melbourne in the evening, the kids went almost straight to bed and slept until 10.30 the next morning We were so tired from the travelling that we slept well too, and were fine from then on. The kids went to bed a bit later / slept in longer but they coped really well My two were 4 and 13 months.

Hope you have a fantastic trip

Now maybe we're not normal but we never had any jet lag issues.
We had 2nights in HK on route to Sydney and were all wide awake at 2am but all woke refreshed at midday the following day.
Then in Sydney we left HK late at night & arrived at around 6am we stayed up until 8pm? Maybe later. Next morning awake at 5am & out for a walk. Then each day it got later.
We flew NZ to Singapore and that was similar - early nights & mornings and yes we did have zombie moments but it wasn't bad.
Home we flew HK to heathrow and were back on Uk time straight away- maybe getting up early?
Kids on flights - dd2 was 4 when we flew home & dd1 was 7 - DH & dd1 got upgraded to first so she had her bed & slept home. Dd2 & I sulked in business but still got some sleep.
    I wouldn't worry about it.
With the food (tea) in Oz- declare it, keep it sealed. The worse that will happen is theyll take it off you. But they might let it in?

I agree with BB. Don't take any kids entertainy type things, we did the same, they each brought a wheely suit saw full of stuff and didn't open them once.

our eldest 2 were 6 and 4 when we came out here and they were the least of our worries :-) The airline give them stacks to do and they also slept for a good chunk of it. They're at an age of reason, as opposed to the 2 yr old Eden, who was a nightmare and didn't sleep at all!

It's really no where near as bad as it's cracked up to be.

My advise, just chill and take it as it comes :-)

    Enjoy your hols!
