Neighbours complaining about an overgrown garden down the road
Would it bother you?
I am not sure whether I should be bothered. Given that they're making so much fuss about it I am wondering whether I am missing something. The old dear down the road was worrying about rats apparently. But we haven't seen any evidence of rodents (know that there are likely to be some as you're never further than xx feet).
So would a neighbour's overgrown garden bother you?libertygal

Re: Neighbours complaining about an overgrown garden down the road
It might annoy me if I was trying to sell my house, or if there was a problem with rodents but otherwise not enough to complain about.
Generally other people's overgrown gardens make me feel a little better about my own hedge that only gets cut once or twice a year.

I don't usually notice other people's mess/dirt/overgrown gardens BUT if it's so bad that it's obstructing the pavement in some way I do get a bit pissed off

I have a friend who's parents are both blind and listening to the issues they have with overhanging trees and unruly bushes has made me much more aware of it. Also while out with a buggy and more recently with the kids on their bikes, i do get quite 'old lady' if anything is sticking out too much onto the pavement.
There's an old lady in the village who I chat to and she was moaning the other day about the amount of daisies in her neighbours lawn. Gardener I ain't
and I love daisies so that wouldn't bother me at all

Re: Neighbours complaining about an overgrown garden down the road
Probably not to the extent that I would make any fuss or complain about it. Are they offering to go and help the occupant get it under control...?
My parents were reported to the police because apparently some of their climbing plants were growing through the neighbours fence! They actually spend a lot of their spare time gardening.

Re: Neighbours complaining about an overgrown garden down the road
I have recently reported a couple of houses in the next street because of their overgrown gardens
Their bushes / trees significantly overhang the pavements though and there's barely enough room to get past with a buggy when I'm walking to school. Wouldn't report someone just for an untidy garden though, mine ain't exactly perfect!

Re: Neighbours complaining about an overgrown garden down the road
There is a garden near here that is overgrown but does not obstruct the path. However, the neighbours have noticed rats etc. Twice the council have been through legal proceedings and then come and cleared it themselves - basically just ripping everything out down to ground level. It still looks terrible, but apparently has helped them with rat control.
I think it's all about the level of seriousness. Fortunately all of my garden is at the back so people can't see it!

Re: Neighbours complaining about an overgrown garden down the road
they've obviously heard it can be illegal.... a little bit of knowledge & all that!! It's only illegal to allow certain plants (which escape me atm) to intrude onto neighbouring properties... which as they are weeds I'm pretty sure you're parents aren't cultivating!!!

That's me too!!! I love daisies so that's probably why it isn't bothering me. (Although there aren't just daisies now)

Well done C, I remember feeling so sad...
