    Hand, foot & mouth!

    Oh dear...!

We suspected Elena might have this earlier this week when she came out with white sores on her tongue & then a blister on her foot. She's been a bit off colour & isn't eating much, but is getting better.

OH didn't sleep well last night. He kept saying his mouth hurt. Yes, you guessed it - he has it as well! He's got a sore tongue & several blisters on his hands.

We've been using calpol & teething gel with Elena. Does anyone know if theres anything different OH can take? I checked out the NHS direct site, but that just says adults are unlikely to get it (helpful!).

Can I have some get well vibes for Elena & OH. Oh & some dont pass it on to scatterbrain vibes too.

    Hi scatterbrain

i work in public health and we sometimes see outbreaks of HFM, especially in creches etc.
HFM is caused by a group of viruses called enteroviruses... there is no specific treatment other than symptomatic (relief from fever, aches and pains etc).
as you've said it mostly occurs in children, but adults can also become ill.

This is a good website, gives you lots of info, hope they feel better soon!

Maybe try some oraldene. The red coloured mouthwash. Its for sore throats and helps numb the mouth if I remember correctly. This should help with your OH's sore mouth I would have thought.
