Re: April/May 2011 mummies over here please!

Thanks PRGirl im very pleased with them

What a awful night i had lastnight with Zach, Couldnt get him to settle again, im not sure why he has gone like this with the thrashing around & wriggling all the time, dont know if it is wind?? I was up til 11pm with him trying to get him to settle down. Then i was up for over a hour getting up every 2 mins to put his dummy in. As soon as it comes out he crys if he is not fast/proper asleep its such a PITA he wont settle without it

After a hour i was so wound up.fed up OH went in with Alfie & i co-slept with Zach as i couldnt keep getting up every few mins then through the night i just had to lean over & plug it back in... I had to feed him at 3.30am as he just would not settle

So seems now not only in the day do i have a nightmare with him with not settling its at night as well. Why do i always seem to get a difficult baby, others seem to have these dream babies that are just happy/content when awake, dont cry after a feed & just settle down....

I tried today to take the dummy off him & kept trying with his thumb but it was just crying all the time & drove me mad, this morning i was so wound up i said to OH to take it away as i cant go through nights like this now of getting up & plugging it in & neither do i want to keep co-sleeping either as its not fair on OH to keep going in Alfies room & we cant both sleep in the bed with Zach as OH is a nightmare.....

I just dont get how people settle there babies without a dummy, i just get screaming all the time & dont know what to do with him...

He is 6 weeks today & i was so hoping i was going to turn a corner with him but seems that its not the case.... They say the 1st 6 weeks are the hardest well things are going downhill for me all the time with him

Did you try playing the white noise thing that I posted from Youtube? It really, really works! Alice can be very un-settled in the evenings, and listening to this really calms her down

CH gorgeous photos! Really love them!

I thought it sounded like Zach was turning a corner until I read your last post. It sounds as if Zach has tummy ache caused by trapped wind. The midwife said to me there is 2 types of wind. One that is caused by feeding which generally they get their own wind up once you pat them on the back and the other is wind caused in the gut. The 2nd type of wind you will not get out and nothing will soothe it. Boys are more prone to this type of wind because the hole in their tummy is not mature. She said that if you imagined a full glass of water and you slosh it around a bit some spills over, this is the same with the hole inside baby's stomach. (not sure if there's any truth in this just repeating what she told me)

I've tried Sam on cow and gate comfort milk and changed his teats again. He seems so much more settled today thank god. What bottles are you using? Is the teat too fast/slow? Does he take his feed quick or slow? How long does he take to feed?

It may just be that he's a very windy baby hence the griping/bellyache that he's having. You can usually tell that he has bellyache by him pulling his legs upto his tummy or arching his back.

Do get your health visitor involved. It's what she's there for to help you. Different babies like different things and she should be experienced enough to give you advice on howto handle Zach.

Well I think I've got cystitis. Feel like crap and I'm off to bed in a bit. It's Amys birthday today and she's had a party and now I'm knackered from watching her run around!

Poor you CH - sounds like you are having a really tough time. I agree with Vienna - get the professionals involved. Has he been tested for anything at all? I would insist he gets checked over by a paediatrician at the very least - you can't carry on like this. I sympathise so much as DD1 was exactly the same and we were at our wits end. I also feel very guilty for talking about how much better it's been for us this time as I feel it makes it seem worse for you

You asked how much Ellie weighs now - she was 8lbs 8oz on Friday. She's still quite a sicky baby but it's only a bit of positing now rather than the bucket load she was bringing up before she was diagnosed and treated for reflux.

My DD1 came downstairs just now beside herself saying she misses Ellie when she goes to bed - bless! She wants her to sleep in her bed with her! I think it was more of an excuse to get up out of bed again but it was still very sweet! How are everyone else's first-borns coping with their new siblings?

I am using Mam bottles & 1 DR brown bottle. He is on teat 3 the fastest teat you can get for these bottles & it says from 4+ months i have to use these those as teat 2 he can get nothing out of, as the milk he is on is thicker than "normal milk" & the gaviscon as well thickens it right up....

A feed does not take very long at all about 15 mins maybe quicker? I do think he is a windy baby & what you describe is how he is he is just like how Alfie was..... Thanks for that info as well & explanation.

If am getting him weighed again next tues so i shall speak to the HV then.

I gave him 6oz tonight, i had to wake him from his sleep at 5,30pm at 9pm to give him his bottle as i want to go to bed soon he had a bottle at 4.30pm so i couldnt leave him.... I woke him up (he settled at 5.30pm) with no dummy & slept solid for 3 hours no waking he has not done that in ages... Ie slept for that amount of time without waking for his dummy

He woke & have me the hugest/sweetest grin that he held on his face for over 10 seconds it was the cutest thing ever He has had his bottle now & OH has put the hairdryer on to see if he takes to this white noise i have tried with the hairdryer & hoover b4 but it didnt seem to work.... Am going to find the link to what SS said about on Youtube & use that tonight as i am going dummyless again with him. I am dreading how this is going to pan out in the night & with getting him down again..... I left him to cry earlier for abit

My GP that i saw the other week was not that great she said he looks healthy is gaining weight he must just be a windy baby & there is nothing i can do. When i phoned back the next day to ask about changing his milk & she told me no she said to go get him weighed every week & come back in 4 weeks, I dont know why as like she said he is gaining weight well.. She did mention a paediatrician i think il push for this

I have stoped the cranial things he was having his 3rd one was last week as it def is not helping him.... DM bless you dont feel guilty im glad that you have a easier one this time around

Since Zach has been back on the gavsicon only since yesterday we are having less sick come up he was bringing bucket loads up & now it is hardly anything

Awwww bless your DD1 Alfie is loving Zach still the novelty has not worn off for him he cant do enough for him, is always all over him when he is awake even when he is screaming the place down.......

Oh CH sounds so horrible. Luca really suffers from wind so I feel your pain. Not sure what to suggest though, are you making sure he's winded well enough after all his feeds?

Devon - Glad ellie is doing better now she's being treated for reflux, bless her!

Vienna - Good to hear Sam is more settled on the comfort and new teats.

We've had a really good few days with Luca. My friend gave me some Dr Brown bottles and along with gripe water and swaddling the change in him is unreal. Not only is he not suffering from wind as bad because of the bottles and gripe water, the swaddling is helping him settle SO well. I put him to bed tonight when he was still awake but dozy and GASP....he was asleep within about 10 mins! Same with his daytime naps when only losely swaddled!! Only a week ago he would only sleep on one of us, and then he would jolt himself awake once put down unless he was in a deep deep sleep. I'm hoping this continues when I'm alone with him this week, it's always so much easier at weekends with dads can help out isn't it?

He is still quite poorly with the bronchilitis though and is sick quite a bit still during and after feeds and it's all really stringy and mucusey and I think he'd actually sleep for longer if he wasn't waking up with a tickly throat and having to basically cough it all up.

I'm not doing well in myself though. I stopped expressing his feeds 3 weeks ago because my supply went down to almost nothing and now i've got painful plugged/clogged milk ducts. I went to see Dr who has put me on antibiotics to ward off mastitis but has offered no explanation in how to get rid of it. I have tried to get the blockage out naturally i.e. through the nipple but it's impossible. Nothing will come out of my nipple, only a little sliver of thick gloopy milk. I have my 6 week check on wednesday so I'm going to ask if they can drain them at the hospital or if I can take tablets to dry them up. Having said that I have felt very poorly today, quite sicky and weak so I think mastitis is on it's way anyway :(

Yes i think so i can be there winding him for about a hour whilst he is fussing on my shoulder or if he is asleep doesnt seem to bring up any more wind......

Thats great about Luca & him settling much better i shall get that blanket in the post for you, ideal as well as it is a summer one so he can get alot of use out of it
