    Re: GYO-er's how's it going?

My strawberries are still small, but a few flowers and fruit.

Seeds currently growing: lettuce, radish, spinach, onion, spring onion & beetroot. Already had one bag full of rocket, one pot is thriving, the other seems to attract slugs & snails.

My potatoes are growing well too, although I've run out of compost to cover them over again! And my blueberry bush has about 3 flowers on, and one teeny tiny blue thing that might be a fruit!

    Re: GYO-er's how's it going?

Had tons of spinach in our curry tonight, then the kids spent an hour after tea eating handfuls of it straight from the bed, well happy. It's lovely too, gonna overdose on it this summer. Lettuce looking good, couple of weeks away from eating it I think.

We're going away over half-term and the weather forecast is good, anyone know if the veggie beds will survive without their daily watering? Might be able to get someone in once or twice max, but certainly no more.

    How is everyone getting on?

We've just been away for a week and I cant believe how much the tomatoes have grown

Ive pulled up one carrot and they'll be a while yet. Cauliflower, sweetcorn and potatoes all look like they're doing well.

Lettuce and strawberries we've been eating

    Re: GYO-er's how's it going?

I can't take much (well any) credit, as DH has done it all, but we have:

    - a glut of new potatoes, and some main crops on their way
    - loads of courgettes, with an imminent glut
    - mange tout (eaten off the plant by all of us as soon as they appear!)
    - the occasional strawberry (unless the birds get there first)
    - Loads of blueberries on the way
    - French beans
    - Runner beans on the way
    - Tomatoes - mostly still green, but about 3 red ones so far
    - Squash plants not doing much as yet, but looking happy
    - Onions (although we've not done them before, so not sure how to know they're ready)
    - Carrots coming along nicely

All I've got to do now is make sure they all get eaten one way or another, or DH gets really cross!

We've only eaten strawberries, potatoes, a few baby carrots and salad so far, but the peas look like they're getting fit to pop, and the beans won't be far behind.

Cucumbers are looking a bit sorry, but everything else seems to be coming on as expected.

Baby carrots, some strawberries, couple of courgettes and tons of spinach and lettuce. Peppers seem to have been eaten by the birds, and toms just starting to flower. Out with the tomorite soon I think...

Onions are ready when the top bit falls over and goes brown. You can pull them before then, but if you want to store them, then wait till it's all dropped and discoloured and they'll keep better (rather than keep trying to grow).

We have onions hanging in our garage and a BIG bag of garlic in our veg drawer. Getting near the bottom of our bag of first-early potatoes, but the next lot are growing well in their pots.

Plenty of rocket and lettuce coming up, but the spring onions and carrots don't seem to be doing much. Also have lots of radish that is getting HUGE.

Sweetcorn isn't doing too much, but have been eating lots of nice fresh runner beans. Our beetroot is doing pretty well too, though haven't pulled any yet.

Tomato plants are getting big and quite a few green ones on there, but no red ones yet. Chili plants don't seem to be growing much, but I remember from last year that they took quite a while to get going.

Allotment wise (shared with my parents, but we mainly help by harvesting) we have LOADS of soft fruit and I made my first jam ever a couple of weeks ago (Raspberry and Loganberry).

I've blanched and frozen a big bagful of broad beans ready for making a lovely bacon, feta and broad bean salad at some point and we already have more courgettes than we know what to do with.

    Re: GYO-er's how's it going?

My broccoli was eaten by something (again!!!)

Lots of potatoes that I think will be ready soon
Some sweet corn with cobs starting to come out now
    My peas dried up
    Lots of carrots coming through
    Lettauces about ready
    tomato plants are growing well
Cucumber plants have little cucumbers coming through
lots of carrots, but as I didn't get round to thinning them I'm not sure what they'll be like

And lastly...lots & lots of weeds seem to have taken a hold since last week's rain.

Oh & lots of plums & apples on the trees starting to come through. Nothing oin the peach tree, but it is very old/poorly & we only had one peach last year anyway.
