Help pot roasting/ slow cooker beef AR

I've got a bit of topside and I was going to do this delia recipe, pot roast with red wine which sounds yum. But I've just come to look at the recipe and I need to cook it for three hours and I won't be able to do that today as I'll be out later. Would it be ok to do in the slow cooker? How long do you think?

Also will the slow cooker be hot enough to get the wine simmering?? or will it just be mulled wine??

Can you turn the slow cooker up to high first for a while? Or put the liquid in warm? I'm no expert though - I just tend to bung stuff in the slow cooker and leave it until tea time (however long that is!)

I always do beef with wine in the slow cooker. Cook on high for about 4/5 hours. It tastes absolutely divine and the meat falls apart. Yum!

Fab that sounds good, I'll put it on before I go out. Do you brown it first?

No, I just chuck it all in cold and turn on.

Great, thank you for advice, I've just shoved it all in with red wine and a bay leaf and will hope for the best. Going to try and make a gravy afterwards by sieving the juices and wine and reducing it a bit with some butter and maybe cranberry jelly
