Best cupcake book?
I've got back into baking again, and am going to treat myself to another baking book. I've heard good things about the Hummingbird Bakery and Magnolia Bakery books, as well as '500 cupcakes'. Do any of you have these books, and if so, which do you recommend? In particular, I am looking for frosting/icing recipes. Thanks.

Re: Best cupcake book?
I've had really good results with the hummingbird recipes. I've got a cupcakes book from m&s too which has some good ideas and varieties, but I've not tried anything from it yet.

I must be the only person to not have much success with the hummingbird bakery book! I much prefer the Primrose bakery one, its fab!

Oooh, Primrose Bakery! *adds to list*

ETA: Is Primrose Bakery British? That might sway my choice. *still flag-waving after the Royal Wedding*

Re: Best cupcake book?
I found the Hummingbird Bakery cupcake recipe to be a huge pointless faff, although I like their other recipes.
I have this one, which I love and always go back to:

Re: Best cupcake book?
See, I just find the photo on the front off-putting. I mean, how am I supposed to turn my attention away from that to read the book, let alone bake anything?

This book, by the same author, is quite new, and is one of the options on my list: http://www.amazon.co.uk/500-Cupcakes...4531536&sr=1-2
They both look similar - I *need* to make those cakes in the tiny plantpots. NEED to.
Gah, decisions, decisions!

I prefer Primrose Bakery's cookbook.
I hate the Hummingbird cupcakes, although their cheesecakes are to die for. You have to download a load of corrections too unless the later editions have been changed

Re: Best cupcake book?
I've tried them all and the magnolia results are by far the best - really light and fluffy cake and fabulous frosting. some of the recipes are very obviously american traditional as opposed to british tastes, but there is more than enough of the basics plus fabulous cake recipes.
red velvet cupcakes with vanilla frosting........... droooooooooooooool.............
Damn you - now i'll have to make some this weekend......
