    All 9lbs 13oz of Zachery's Birth Story

So he is finally here, i still cant get my head around it Its also weird not being pregnant anymore & yes i already miss my bump & feeling him move.

So he is 3 days old already & such a gorgeous little thing He looks the spitting image of Alfie really when he was born, nice head of hair

Only problem we have with him already is at night He seems to really struggle with his wind on his feed b4 bedtime & is awake for hours just screaming his head off.

Monday night we were up with him from 10pm-1.30am & just didnt know what was up with him, was it wind was he hungry as he was sucking at his hand.

Lastnight from 7.30pm-12 again just screaming his head off but it was wind.. Just rubbing/tapping his back all the time but nothing came up at all But he had been fine/content all through the day I just dont get it????

Anyway here is my birth story. I didnt get the "natural" birth i wanted although now why the hell i wanted to go down that route i dont know.... I did end up with a c-section & do hate this whole recovery part but OH is doing great although i do feel very useless & hate not being that mobile. OH is off work all this week & i think he is going to take next week off to....

So Zachs due date came & went. I ended up being called into hospital at 6.30am Saturday 15th April to be induced & was 5 days overdue.

Went in & had all the "normal checks etc done" & at 10am i had the pessary inserted. Was told that it could be a long old slog the risks etc & was told we would take each induction part as it came..... I was being left for 6 hours to see what would happen

Was hooked up to the CTG machine which is where i pretty much had to stay the whole time so they could keep a eye on his heartbeat etc

OH & me just watched TV had a laugh about things & munched on food

At 1.30pm back-ache started for me, & i thought this was the start of things so on went the tens machine. I was able to walk about for 10 mins at a time to be mobile then plugged back on the CTG machine for his heartbeat.....

At 2.30pm the contractions started for me which were uncomftable & i then knew "how" you knew that you were in labour....

At 6pm they decided they would try to break my waters, my cervix had softened more, I was told they may not be able to but would try if i wanted them to..... I did want this..

I was handed gas & air as contractions were becoming painful & from then on here the whole thing is abit hazy TBH. All i rember from this point is alot of crying from me with each contraction. Not really knowing how to breath properly good old Dean was with me right through it all breathing in & out like he was in labour & i was just copying his rhythum & i kept my eyes shut pretty much the whole time from here on end......

I had another machine also on & beeping, above the CTG scan it was marking all the contractions & his heartrate etc (its a new thing that there using) which also helps them make decsions as to what to do next, they answer questions on it & it does different stuff..

Anyway so im handed the gas & air, good stuff that is & all i rember from this bit is starting to beath it in. Being in a outerbody experience, breathing, feeling the MW trying to break my waters..... Im holding/squeezing OHs hand/arm & my hand is working my way further up his arm the more there pulling & hurting me trying to break the waters... It felt like ages, suddenly the machine is then going mad beeping away like a massive alert tone.... I can hear my mum & dean saying "should it be doing that" how long are you going to keep trying for" they sounded really worried, i can hear the MW saying to me "Just breathe Gemma in & out" meanwhile this machine is going mad & suddenly all i hear is like a heartbeat tone you know when you are dead.......

I hear Dean saying "stop thats enough" the MW is saying its ok, dont worry look she is still breathing through the gas & air, im thinking in my head OMG am i dead & just thinking of Alfie & seeing him again. All i can hear though is this machine going dooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooo

The whole enviroment sounded real panickey but i think that was the gas & air as Deans voice sounded really panickey but coming around & back to the room it wasnt.

All i rember then is letting go of Dean's hand/arm putting my arm up in the air & giving him the thumb signal to let him know what i am OK....

I then hear the MW say "There goes your waters Gemma" & i feel them. Jesus they go on for ages & then i suddenly start coming around & back to the room OHs breathing sounds like it is all out of sorts & he is real worried & scared, same as my mums, i heard her say "how long are you going to keep going/doing this for". As i came around the MW said "so your waters have gone Gemma & i can feel babies head he has alot of hair"

I open my eyes & OMG the pressurs i have going on down there, im also expecting her to say the head is out

There was so much water, mop had to come out & i kept doing as well was leaking water all the time my bed had to be changed so many times it was unreal.......... You could then actually for once feel the babys limbs through my stomach

The contractions were coming real thick/fast at this point & really hurting by about 7pm i was having 4 every 10 mins......

I rember saying loads that i needed to poo with each contraction, i did get up a few times to go to the loo but nothing & that was awful without no gas & air to breathe in. It was the babies head though the pressure...

At 2.30am sunday morning i rember being examined & being told i was about 2cm i had, had enough at this point, as soon as the contractions stopped they started, i still had my eyes closed, was still crying through them.... I said id had enough & wanted a c-section

The MW asked if i wanted the epidural which i agreed to as i was so tired to have some relief from it & not be able to fee things would have been great.

At around 3am the anethatist (sp) came in. It took him ages to get it it because of the contractions, but finally after about 25 mins he did it....... At 4pm the contractions were still painful, i was still needing the gas & air, the epidural had not made me more comftable or stopped me feeling the pain... It didnt feel like it had worked at all. My hands & arms were really numb..........

At 4.30am & having been awake 24hrs now i said "enough was enough" i coudlt do it anymore & wanted the section. The MW said to wait another 30 mins & she would examin me see where i was.... The pain was unbarable, i think they thought that i would have really progressed but at 5am i was only 4-5cms. I broke down in tears then still with eyes shut saying i couldnt do it, it was only going to get worse & the head still had to come out....

At 5.30am someone from theatre came in to say i was having a c-section, that baby was getting distressed he wasnt that happy in there & that i would be took down

Down in the theatre room, they tried to top up the epidural but it didnt work they couldnt believe i could still feel the contractions so intense, they then decided they had to do the whole spinal block & that took ages to get put in as well because of how thick/fast the contractions were coming......

We were down there for ages my mum said & she was starting to worry.... i still had my eyes shut & was drifting in & out of sleep whilst the cracked on getting him out. We all had a weight guess they said he was a big boy def & the smallest weight i got was 7lbs 13oz biggest was 10lbs 8. He was born at 7.10am on Sunday 17/04/11

I rember them saying "here he is" showing us b4 taking him away to be checked & i thought "Well he doesnt look that big" They then bought him over went to give him to me but i just wanted to shut my eyes so they gave him to OH

Around in recovery OH gave him a feed, they weighed him & she said yes he is a big boy gave me the weight in KGs (is it) & i said i needed it in lbs & oz. She said the chart didnt go up high enough but thought it was about 10lbs 2

We were then wheeled back to my room & 20 mins later after checking the weight on the computer he was 9lbs 13oz.

I was told the reason why i was not progressing with Labour was because he was to big I had asked this for ages how did they know i could push him out, i didnt think i could because of the pressure/pain i would get on my hips when it felt like he was trying to enagae.... So i bascially went through all of that for nothing & he was also back to back as well - was so not happy when i heard this...........

He is here now though Mummy to 2 boys..... Alfie is besotted with him & doesnt leave him alone..... He said he was tinky & he does look like a newborn the few 10lbs vests/sleepsuits i bought him are massive...

We have had a few poblems with feeding, he has been so muchusy. He feed 1oz at 8am on Sunday morning & i couldnt get him to take anymore until 10pm Sunday night, again just 1 oz.

I tried again 4 hours later at 2am but nope he was not intrested & the next time he fed was 6.30am Monday morning (1oz)

I was told he had to fed another 2 x monday or we couldnt take him home... I managed to just get it down him......... Now though he is taking between 1-2oz & feeding every 4-5 hours but going longer through the night.... About 6hrs...

He really is gorgeous though & i cant believe he is here.. Thats it for me as well no more & if we did i would never want to experience labour again

This was him at 15 mins old

He was def puffy but lost all that quite quick....

I shall load some piccies on later of him

Aww sweetnesss! Well done. Don't over thing the crying. Babies cry, especially new ones and often it is a night when you are feeling least strong to cope with it.
