How long after a sweep did you go into labour?

    Hiya,

I thought I was having a sweep on wednesday but the midwife had a meeting to go to and didn't have time. Plus she said with second babies they didn't do them until you were 7 days overdue I didn't know that.

Anyway, I've got an appointment tomorrow to have one and also get a date for induction. Isabella was born at 42 weeks exactly, after an induction.

I was planning a water birth this time, but won't be able to do this if I have to be induced, I think? I'm gutted to be honest. But what will be, will be, and I just want my baby here safely now.

So, if you had a sweep, did it work? How long did it take for you to go into labour? Anything else I can try to get labour going? Tried all the obvious ones.

    Thanks! X

I had a sweep on the tuesday afternoon. I had period type pains in a couple of hours and mild cramps all night but then nothing I'm afraid. I had my waters broken on the Thursday and Oscar arrived on Friday morning.

First sweep at 1 day overdue (I was so desperate as I had bad SPD so they made an exception). Did nothing. 2nd sweep at 11.30am at 9 days overdue. Did quite a lot of nipple stimulation that day , had my first contraction at 8.15am on 10 days over and had a water birth, she was born at 11.36am so 24 hours later

Baby out vibes for you Going overdue sucks!

I had 3 sweeps with C, one at 40 weeks, 40+3 and 41 weeks. None of them worked but I also think that I just wasn't ready to go into labour as my cervix was still closed on the inside edge and 1cm on the outside edge. I eventually went into labour at 41+2 after a very lovely and spicy thai red curry.

If I remember rightly I had a sweep on the Tuesday afternoon (2nd March) & waters went on the 4th March lunchtime & ashley was born very soon after.
My EDD with Ashley was 25th Feb so I was only 5 days over ATT

With Aella labour started about 36 hours after sweep at 40+5.. With Erin, I had a sweep on my due date which did nothing at all, and then I had one on 40+7 and labour kicked in about 9 hours later.

Sweep at 41 weeks around noon, she was born at 2.42 the following morning. It definitely seemed to get things moving!

I had a sweep on my EDD (previous giant baby) and then another at about 5 days over. Went into labour at 9 days over. Don't know whether the sweeps helped but saw no reason not to try. I also had acupuncture 3 days before labour began. I planned to delay induction when the time came as my first was induced and I really really wanted a natural birth, which I got.
