Re: January Book Club Discussion thread

I reserved a copy at our library weeks ago, but it still hasn't arrived! .

I've just jumped to the end of this thread now, in case of spoilers, but probably won't be able to add to it for a while!

Re: January Book Club Discussion thread

Just bumping this thread as it's coming up to the end of the month.

I was chatting to one of the school mums last night, and we had a quick chat about Kindles (we them) and she was saying that her credit card didn't like her Kindle much as she'd spent loads on it, and that she had had to buy the book for her reading group... which was "Sister"! I wonder if she is also a Damsel?!

Re: January Book Club Discussion thread

I absolutely loved this book & am surprised that so many weren't keen. It's not really my usual either but I've been raving about it since.

I was a bit re Mr Wright, but not to the extent of suspecting his existence & was a bit disappointed about this.

The character I warmed to most was Tess, or the depiction of her at least!

I did assume it was Kasia coming to rescue her at the end & didn't at all get that her illness was her lying in the toilets.

All in all I loved it, esp the writing style, which I found quite tender at times.

    Finnished

Have to say I enjoyed the book, but wouldn't put it on my to be read again pile. So didn't see that Mr Wright was a product of her imagination, was too hung up on what her illness was.

Glad that Todd bogged off so early - spineless.

She was definitely rescued by Kasia - in my mind

Enjoyed the transformation of Bee too. The way she changed from arrogance to accepting of people for how they are. Didn't suspect William at first, but later

Not exactly waiting with baited breath for her next novel, but if it's cheap enough for the Kindle, who knows.

ITA with this Sparks, at times I was a snivelling wreck with her tenderness - her poignant passages about her sister and her sister's death were terribly emotive; I think because I (and I know you are) so close to my (your) sister.

Me neither. Who says that we're not right though?

I've just finished it and Sonriendo pretty much sums up my feelings about it too!
I like to think that Kasia saved her, I certainly didn't guess about Mr Wright and I was intrigued all the way through about her 'illness' and liked the way it made sense as it unfolded.

Re: January Book Club Discussion thread

Well, rather late to this thread I'm afraid, but my copy of Sister has only just arrived from the library!

I'm so glad I read it anyway - I loved it and cried buckets most of the way through. I certainly didn't see the ending coming, although I did have my suspicions about William. I thought the way she'd done the whole Mr Wright thing was a very clever way of 'presenting' the story, but I was so disappointed when I found he didn't exist! Her blackouts made complete sense when put into context, and it was good how so many things fell into place even after I'd finished reading - the constant glasses of water, the warm sunny rooms etc.

It was a cracking read - and thanks to whoever it was first suggested it!

I know I am beyond late to this, but I just read this book on hols & I was gripped! I think Bee was found cos of all the media coverage she had each day & Todd apologising.

    Agree totally with Sparkly!
