Food colourings that don't taste
I have just thrown a fresh batch of cupcakes in the bin

I made some vanilla cupcakes and vanilla buttercream. I kept half white and put red natural food colouring in half the buttercream. I iced them and then tasted them.
The red ones were bitter and awful and are now in the bin.
I didn't think food colourings had taste or was I just using the wrong brand?

Re: Food colourings that don't taste
hi lazy mummy
I used liquid, and more than a dash, as I wanted red and white, a christmas theme rather than pink....
where do you get the paste ones from, I've not seen them
thanks

Re: Food colourings that don't taste
I've never seen any natural paste colourings, however you can get Sugarflair and Wilton gel/paste food colourings at cake decorating shops or online.
Liquid food colourings are much weaker than the paste ones so you have to add loads to get a strong colour---it's very hard to get a good solid red. Sugarflair extra-red is your best bet.Lucas ~*~ 22.10.06

Sorry FP, didn't see your post!
Ebay is good for Sugarflair pastes, especially if you want to buy a few. Here's a set of red/green for Christmas!
