I have built up xmas too much help!
I haven't had much money recently, so had to cut back on what we get for E. I have been saying, that she will have to see what she gets for xmas. The problem is that she now says it for literally everything she see's. It's my fault I started he off doing it, but I didn't expect this response!
How can I calm her down a bit, and stop her wanting everything she looks at?
I'm finding it hard to decide what to buy her for xmas.

Re: I have built up xmas too much help!
I just smiled and said "we'll see" and lets face it, have you ever heard of a 3 yr old not being happy on Christmas morning? She'll just be so thrilled with what she does have she won't even remember all those things from the adverts. I always buy what I know my children will like rather than what they think they want!
Mum to Ross 16, Eden 13 and Beanie (real name Finn) 11 and my 3 angel babies,
never forgotten xx

Re: I have built up xmas too much help!
I have gone a bit OTT with my three year old as well. Literally every advert that comes on for a toy she says "I will be a good girl and Father Xmas will bring me mummy" I am just nodding and agreeing with her, the only thing she will definatly remember nearer the time is the dress up Buzz Lightyear costume I think.

Zach (3.5) has started asking for everything he sees on tv now. When he asks I say "Maybe when you are a much bigger boy" which seems to make him happy enough.

Honestly don't worry about it, once she opens her presents Xmas Day she'll be so excited she won't even remember.
Last year Lucy got hardly anything she asked for, because she basically asked for the entire contents of the Argos Book
but she was so excited just opening the socks and pants in her stocking that she never mentioned it again and certainly wasn't disappointed that she didn't get the things she asked for.

Re: I have built up xmas too much help!
Hun don't panic!! Agree with the others about them being excited whatever. DD has also started saying that she wants everything on tv ads and I've started saying that she'll need to pick one special thing to write on her list before we post it off to Father Christmas.
I go waaaaaay overboard on the cheap/free stuff - making decs and decorating their rooms and the house, going out to see the Christmas lights, making Christmassy biccies etc, doing snowy footprints on Christmas Eve with icing sugar, stuff like that. Mine nearly burst on Christmas morning last year and they only had a stocking and a few pressies really.
I'm banking on mine at 4yrs and 3yrs not knowing what the 'norm'
is or that some kids will get £1000s spent on them - it's not every morning you pretend a fat bloke in a red suit has broken in to your house and left them some pressies - that's magical enough for know I reckon! Till they become spoilt prima donnas and had me a spreadsheet next year

Don't worry my DS says he wants everything he sees for Christmas as well, I just say well he'll have to see what Santa decides to bring him/we'll see/etc etc. He'll probably get a couple of the things he wants and loads of other stuff so he won't remember everything.

Re: I have built up xmas too much help!
My five year old DD has been asking for everything she sees. In actual fact, I don't think she really, really wants anything so is just asking for allsorts. I've been telling her that it might be best if she asks for a suprise.

Re: I have built up xmas too much help!
Don't let her watch adverts! Seriously. I don't let mine watch commercial TV - I'll record programmes if there's something they really like and whizz through the ads. It's mainly because I think advertising to kids is evil, but also as Christmas is approaching I don't want them asking for expensive stuff (mainly expensive tat probably). I was a bit lax and let them watch Milkshake a few times a while ago without ad-whizzing and all I heard was "I want Lelli Kelli shoes'
so that was the end of that. I've told DD that adverts are mainly lies (which is pretty much true) and when you get the stuff it's actually rubbish
so she's a little bit more skeptical now. Doesn't stop her singing the Lelli Kelli jingle though.
Christams is ages away - do it now and they'll forget all the expensive stuff they've already seen and you can big up cheap things instead
ETA and don't leave the ELC catalogue lying around either

Re: I have built up xmas too much help!
I tell mine that they can write whatever they want on their lists but that Santa knows what the best toys are for them and he will choose from the list ..seems to work here

I would rather DD learn that she can "want" all she likes but she can't have everything and that's just life!
