The 'I can make you thin - Helski stylie' thread

Ok, well after my comments on Biba's weight loss thread about a brain reprogramming exercise, I had a few PMs asking about it so thought I'd post a new thead for anyone else who may be interested.

    DISCLAIMER:
Can I just say to start with though - I am absolutely not saying that if you do this but eat like a piggy and sit on your ass all day, you'll lose weight
It should be used to complement your 'calories in/energy used' daily routine.

    THE PREACHY BIT:
I wholeheartedly believe (which is why this method works for me) that you can change any part of your life and more often that not we are our own worst enemies in making these changes happen. You can be doing everything right on paper (i.e. eating less/walking more) you can still struggle with your weight loss goals because you are constantly sending messages to your subconcious (and anyone else who'll listen) along the lines of 'I can never seem to lose weight', 'I always lose half a stone and then put it back on' or 'I'm don't know what I'm doing wrong, I just can't shift the pounds' etc etc etc

    THE SCIENCE BIT:
Some people already do a version of this method, but are still sending the wrong message. If you inwardly think 'I WANT to lose weight/more money/bigger house/husband/children, whatever' all you will do is attract more WANT to your life.

This is true with any message we send our subconcious. Your subconcious isnt aware of the emotion attached to the message, it just brings to reality the messages we send it. Think of it like gardening, if you planted apple seeds, you wouldn't expect to grow potatoes! Whatever messages you plant, that'll be the reality, so if you're telling yourself 'I can never lose weight', guess what'll happen?

Anyway enough preamble from me. This is what I think you need to do in order to reinforce the hard work you're putting in eating and exercising wise.

THE BIT WHERE YOU FIND OUT WHAT TO DO:

    * Find 5-10 undisturbed minutes during the day (I do this in bed at night, but wherever works for you) You'll need longer at first but once you're doing it regularly you'll be able to do it in 5 mins.
    * Get comfy, close your eyes and relax.
    * Picture yourself ALREADY at the weight you want to be, in a happy scenario. Make the picture as big and bright as you can, fill it with as much detail as you can and hold it in your mind for as long as you can.
    * Now for the first important bit. Try to *feel* what it's like to be the you in the image, really feel the happiness and contentment. Hold on to that feeling for as long as you can (30 seconds minimum)
    * The second super important bit is what you say (doesn't need to be out loud, you don't want your friends/family/colleagues thinking you're a loon) Something like 'I find it easy to lose weight' or 'I'm really happy with my weight'. Now, I know you won't believe it to begin wth but keep repeating it over and over, think about each word as you say it, feel what it would be like to mean it and hold on to that feeling.

You need to be doing this every day.

If anyone decides to try this, I'd love an update of how you're doing. It will work if you believe it will.

    Promise.

    Thanks Helski Your a star!

I've done a similar thing before with the visualisations (we did it as our slimming world group too) but I don't think I've ever said the words to go along with it - great idea. I'm definitely going to give this a try everyday, as an experiment

I've use visualisation techniques like that a lot in my daily life and they definitely help Mostly to deal with emotions (I imagine the thing that's upsetting me, and then 'white' it out), or things that are annoying me (I imagine putting them in a box and chucking it over my shoulder).

Will give this a go and let you know how I get on.
