Thinking of seeing a medium - thoughts appreciated
I've been considering this for some time as the activity that DH and I have had in our home over the past three to four years - which I'm thinking must be caused by some spirit/entity - has got me curious. On the other hand the good Catholic girl
in me tells me I shouldn't really meddle with "those things".
I'm being really pathetic and dithery (typical me) over the matter. It's not that the activity ever bothered us much, as it was always harmless and non destructive, and it seems to have quitened down lately. I'd just quite like to find out something further if possible. I did try talking to "it" once or twice (feeling rther meff in the process), as suggested, but they must have been shy, or I'm crap at communicating, because I didn't get any response.
I dunno - I didn't do anything to trigger or "invite" the entity in (though I don't mind it being here) - I've never (yet) visited a medium, never attended a seance, used a ouija board, nothing.
(I said I was a good Catholic.
)
I suppose I just want to walk in and have some astonishingly good medium say (without any words from me), "You're here to find out who's been moving/hiding/dropping objects down out of the air in your house. It's *******"
But how likely is that?
And even if they did, I'd likely worry that it wasn't really that person's spirit, but some mischievous other entity trying to trick me, as the Church claims.
I really don't know what to think.
It's not as if I'm bereaved or anything, so there's no emotional fragility going on.
I'm just nosey, really. I'm sort of grateful for what's happened to us, for pretty much confirming to me that there really is some sort of afterlife, something I'd sat a bit on the fence before it all happened. It's been extremely interesting and eye-opening for both DH and I, if not a bit frustrating when things we're looking for disappear and reappear.
I realise fully that this ramble will probably all sound utterly batshit to the non-believers/uninitiated/people who've never experienced supernatural activity before, but DH and I know that what's been happening in our house is 100% real.
Anyway, other people's thougts/suggestions/experiences would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Oooh, I don't know if I could cope with all your strange "goings on" Starfish. I'd have run for the hills by now!

Everybody I know who has been to see a medium raves about how good an experience it was. I would absolutely love to go and see one, but am far too chicken

Well, it's our house, and DH and I ain't moving ourselves, three kids, a dog, two aquariums, and a ton of crap anywhere!
Real life ain't an episode of Scooby Doo.
I used to get nervous (very), but once I realised it wasn't hostile I guess I just relaxed and accepted it. Besides, it's gone rather quiet recently, as I mentioned. I kind of miss my wee ghostie now.

But yes, I'm a bit nervous of what seeing a medium might reveal.
It's just all so strange and unfamiliar, and a bit scary if I'm honest.

I'd love to see one, but I'm scared my mum wouldn't come through as she didn't believe in that sort of thing

I would definitely recommend the Spiritualist Association of Great Britain. I've seen a few different ones there and i found them very good. Only thing i would say is that i think for information about a spirit in the house, you might want to go via some kind of ghost hunting website where people specialise in that.
Mediums generally would focus on people who are close to you who have passed, family members etc. I'm not sure they would pick up an entity in your house, unless of course it had attached itself to you generally.

Me too Solitaire. Actually, I'm scared she would come through and that would make me cry because she'd made contact, and I'm scared she wouldn't come through because she didn't believe in any of this, and that would make me cry.
My friend went to see one who said that her mum was her guardian angel and was in the room with her at that time. She went on to tell my friend intimate details of her and her mum's relationship (which nobody in the world could have known) and it really freaked my friend out. I'm not sure I could handle that!

Re: Thinking of seeing a medium - thoughts appreciated
Thanks, EW. I had had thoughts similar to what you suggested. Although I thought a ghost hunting society would just set up equipment and camp down for all night vigils to try to detect a presence, though? We don't need or want that - DH and I have witnessed enough to know that something is definitely going on.
As for people close to me who've died - there's noone younger than about sixty died in my close family for over fifty years. I'd assumed that the mischievousness would suggest a child or younger person?
Neither DH nor I have any personal connection or history with our house or area. Our families both live hundreds of miles away. I just can't think who it could possibly be.
"Attaching itself to someone" - at first it used to always be me that witnessed stuff, but later DH began to as well. I was glad about that, as he could see for certain that it wasn't just me going gag ga.
It's nothing to do with the older girls as stuff happens whether they were there or not.
The activity only happens in our house, car and garden, so it does seem to be place bound, I suppose.
Just now it's a mystery - one that has me fiendishly curious.

Aw, I think it's understandable that you'd be a bit reluctant in Chickster's and Soitaire's cases.

As I said, I'm not vulnerable in that respect. Just nervous of the whole unknown, after death matter. It's a difficult decision to make. Dither, dither...

Honestly? I wouldn't bother. If you have a friend who has the gift or someone who'll do it for free/a charitable donation then go ahead. I reckon most so called mediums, even those belonging to the spiritualist church are fakes, even if they don't know it themselves.
I don't disbelieve but think that we all have the same "gift".
If your entity bothers you, tell it to go away. That's what a reputable spiritualist would tell you to do.

Re: Thinking of seeing a medium - thoughts appreciated
I don't know anyone who's involved in mediumship, genuine or otherwise.
I do know someone whose aunty did it, for no charge, but she's dead now (the aunty, obviously). So no, there's nobody I can ask for free/donation.
As I said it really doesn't bother me - I'm just curious, that's all. I don't know if they're trying to get my attention for some particular purpose, or if it's just random. I think I'd just like to try to find out, if possible.
I have a pretty damned good bullshit detector, so I'd know a fraud. If I did visit someone I wouldn't say a word, give a false name, not give any address or anything. That way I think I'd know if they were genuine. I'm well aware of all the non specific bollocks that the charlartans come out with, so I'd spot that. I'd be after specific details, name etc.
Oh, and if *I* myself have a "gift", then it's very well buried!
