What is an appropriate bed time for a 6 year old?
Well, nearly 6.5?
Lulah goes to bed around 7.30 - 7.45 and I'm finding that she's often awake til 8.30 or 9 and coming down and annoying us!
Opinions and experiences please?
She sleeps through til 6.30 or 7 ish, sometimes later.

Re: What is an appropriate bed time for a 6 year old?
My 7 year old tends to go bed anytime from 7pm until 8pm and then tends to have a read - we aim to have lights out by 8.15ish.
Having said all of that, the weekends we tend to be a bit more relaxed and he is currently watching the England football game.....

Re: What is an appropriate bed time for a 6 year old?
B's in bed by 7.30pm but it's what 9.30 now and she's still awake.
It wouldn't be so bad but she gets up before anyone else and then is completely ratty for the rest of the day - it's a vicious cycle I don't know how to beat!

Re: What is an appropriate bed time for a 6 year old?
I posted about this recently HERE - seems we're all having the same problem

I'm sticking with the 7.30 in the week but anything up to 9pm on a Friday or Saturday in the vague hope of having a lie-in at the weekend

DD goes at 8 but is often still awake at 9. No way is she going any later, I like my evenings!
She's a total night owl like her father though and seems to have no problem staying up.

Re: What is an appropriate bed time for a 6 year old?
E and J are 5 and a half, they're in bed by about 7.30, but E is often awake till at least 8.30 - she likes to try and come down to see what we're doing
, but is allowed to read for a while in bed. She sleeps till about 7 am.
I like to have child-free time in the evenings, so while she may not be ready to sleep until a bit later, I want her in her room, winding down without telly or other distractions until she is ready to fall asleep. I always went to bed quite early as a child; I'm sure when I went to secondary school my bedtime was no later than about 8.30 or so!
eta - just read Miss P's post - yes, weekends are a lot more relaxed, especially if we have friends over or are out. E and J have only been in bed for about 20 mins as we had friends for tea who stayed late and they were watching the footie.

Re: What is an appropriate bed time for a 6 year old?
ours both go to bed at the same time - around 7.30pm, and though they both 'read' in bed, they are conked out by 8pm usually (I think ... I rarely go back up/in til later on). occasionaly DS2 will come downstairs at odd times with flimsy excuses, but they both love their beds. and they are very physically active, so more and more knackered as week goes on

Re: What is an appropriate bed time for a 6 year old?
My 5 year old and 7 year old both go up for a bath or shower at about 7ish, then into bed for stories. They are usually asleep by about 8, although I occasionally hear them wandering around after that. If I go up, I find they've turned their nightlight up but are both in bed with eyes tight shut. I never know which one was up:-)
Unfortunately it's my 2 and a half year old who is the late night rampager. AND she gets up at bloody sparrow fart every morning and wakes up the whole household.

Re: What is an appropriate bed time for a 6 year old?
DD1 and DD2 go together, at about 7.23 (after Billy
).
They both takes books to bed with them; DD2 is usually zonked out within 10-20 mins but DD1 The Bookworm has to be told 'no more reading now' at about 830pm. She would read til midnight, for sure!
So DD1 is usually asleep at about 830-9pm these days.
Mr ED said why don't we let DD1 come down after DD2 falls asleep and I was
- number 1. I want them upstairs and out of my hair and number 2. it encourages her to read which is always a plus in my book. Pardon the pun

Re: What is an appropriate bed time for a 6 year old?
SS (aged 10) is always in bed and straight to sleep by 8pm on a school night. On weekends his official bed time is 9pm but that is more flexible.
He gets so tired during the week he'd be vile if we let him stay up any later and he goes off to bed without a murmur so I make the most of it!

Re: What is an appropriate bed time for a 6 year old?
My nearly 7 year old has a 7.30pm bedtime and lights out by 8pm - but again she's not really going to sleep until later atm. I think its the night lights even though she has blackout blinds. She is getting more and more tired (and grumpy too!) although she did sleep until I woke her at 8am this morning.
