. For those with bunk beds

What do you do about the ladder when you have little ones that you don't want going up the ladder?

Can you get a guard of some sort to clamp on to the ladder?

Have tried searching online and all I can find is guard rails for the side of the bed, but there must be something......

Do you know what I mean or am I making no sense?

I am sure that in shops there is some kind of perspex thing that I have seen to stop children clambering over the displays

E is 5 and we have been given her friends old bed. We didn't really want to put it up yet, but they sold the house and it needed collecting. J is only 19 months and can climb the ladder with ease. She will still sleep in her cot but I need something for when they are playing in their room

    Can anyone help please?

I know what you mean - in shops they have a bit of Perspex covering the ladder. What about going to a big dept store and asking if they have a spare one to sell? Failing that, could you or your dh make one? It's just a sheet of Perspex with something to attach on to the ladder sides (says Kate who couldn't make it)

Agatha is constantly climbing up onto Ruben's bed - she's only fell off the once, and managed to get stuck in the rungs, so not too much of a disaster. Ruben's has a slide at the end so she loves going down that, but I have my heart in my mouth when she does.....not much help am I??

I think there is definitely a gap in the market for a barrier of some kind or I think the ladders should be made to be removable. My LO fell off her sisters cabin bed when my back was turned when i was trying to fix the TV on the side. She banged her nose on floor and there was blood everywhere. I felt terrible for her.

We got a bit of mdf and drilled some holes in it, and cable tied it to the foot of the ladder. Ross could get his leg high enough to use the third rung up as the first, Eden and Finn couldn't.

The ladder on ours is removeable so it's currently living in the wardrobe as DS2 can't resist climbing on everything. Not much use to you though but the others suggestions of perspex / mdf type thing over the bottom few rungs sounds good, I'm sure bed showrooms just have perspex with holes drilled down the sides and attached to the ladder with tie wraps.

we just took the ladder off and no one went up top till both could cope ( no idea how we stopped no 3 breaking her neck as both beds were I use then but she survived !).

    Kates idea is inspired!

Nothing shop made then? We are not very good on the DIY front so don't think we will be able to mock something up

Maybe the option of no ladder until little one can climb safely is the way we go - unless anyone else has a suggestion?

What about showroom fitters? Do you think thye might help?

We had to remove the ladder when S was about 8 or 9 months as one day he learnt to climb it and we couldn't keep him away. The older ones have no trouble getting in and out of the top bunk so it hasn't caused any problems.

If it's wooden, just saw off the bottom two rungs. If it's metal, can they be unscrewed or is it welded?
