Elyssia Ruth Birth Story
*Please dont post name yet on facebook as we need to tell relatives*
Well yesterday, thursday 11th Feb, I had had a rough night with a bit of nausea the previous night and felt tired and had been for a few toilet trips during the day. We picked Ryder up from nursery about 5pm and then took him to McDonalds where I had some cramping while I was eating but didn't think too much of it. Then we went to Tesco for our weekly shop and my back ached a bit at the checkout. Got home and put Ryder to bed and said that I had a feeling that he would be meeting his baby sister in the couple of days. I still had occasional period type pain. Got downstairs and on the phone to my mum for 40 minutes where I didn't have any pains at all till I put the phone down
I then was surfing the web when I felt my waters trickle out. I jumped off the sofa and DH went and got a plastic bag for me to stand on
and it was just pouring out! I asked him to pass me Ryder's potty and sort of sat on that to collect the water and posted on here. DH wanted to go to the hospital and asked how long it would be till baby was born
I said could be an hour, could be a week (famous last words). Then I started getting strong contractions 4 minutes apart lasting about 30 secs. At the second contraction he phoned the hospital and they said to come in. Phoned PIL for them to come over. With the next contraction I was making animal noises and my womb was automatically pushing. I said that I couldn't get in the car and he would probably have to phone an ambulance - I really thought I was going to have her on the floor! Paramedic turned up within a few minutes and not long after so ambulance. PIL turned up and were ushered into kitchen while I was laid on living room mat screaming the place down and making animal noises. Apparently MIL was shaking -so was I! my whole body was violently shaking - I don't know if it was the shock or because I had no trousers or knickers etc on. Luckily the stone walls dulled the noise and Ryder didn't wake up.
They stretchered me into the ambulance and gave me gas and air, which made me feel woozy but didn't do anything for the pain. The lady paramedic was telling me not to push but to pant - yeah right! I didn't have any control over it
Got to the hospital in super-quick time and they wheeled me to the delivery room and were now telling me to stop screaming and to push but the first half of the contractions were excrutiating and I was trying to climb off the top of the bed away from the pain and screaming then a few seconds later the involuntary pushing and animal noises would come but baby would be pushed to the entrance and then slip back again when the contraction subsided. The head midwife was trying to stretch things with her fingers and that was just too much and I was screaming at her to get off and apparently wrestling with her arms and DH had to wrestle with me to get off her
She kept doing this apparently to see how much give I had left
I nearly kicked her in the face so I ended up asking to be cut and that made baby girls entrance to the world 'easier'. I have never had so much relief in my life as when that little girl's body slid out. But then came delivery of the placenta and I asked to look at it and midwife gave us a indepth insight into my placenta
then came the stitches and horrible local anathaetic injections
- cue more screaming. I bet I deafened the poor midwives
So, a one hour 39 minute labour with only some gas and air was a total contrast with the previous 32 hour back-to-back labour, epidural and forceps with Ryder. I wouldn't recommend either of them TBH. What happened to my serene water birth?
Hope I haven't put anyone off

Re: Elyssia Ruth Birth Story
Congratulations on your baby girl!
I have to say, my first birth sounded similar to Ryder's birth and your story has given me some hope that my next one (should I be lucky enough) might, at least, be swift!
