Cystitus in little boys
I think DS2 may have a bit of cystitus. He was really distraught this morning when he wanted to go for a wee & when he eventually did go it was very cloudy & smelly.
Nursery have said he did try to go a couple of times earlier but to no avail but he has been now & is happy.
So my question is should I take him to the Drs? What would they give him? Shall I just see if we can flush it out of his system with drinking lots & giving him Calpol?
Would cranberry juice help? He loves dried cranberrys & will eat them by the bucket load.
Any ideas?

Re: Cystitus in little boys
My DS had cystitis in Spain. They took it very seriously, gave him a probe thing (pushed up in his willy) to check the valves were flowing the right way and told me if they weren't he would probably need a kidney transplant....

Of course, this is the UK and they will probably just give him antibiotics without the dramatics!
But yes, don't leave it, if only for how uncomfortable he will be feeling with the urge to constantly pee. You may find he gets a temperature with it too.

Re: Cystitus in little boys
William had a urinary tract infection last summer, and he was given antibiotics. It cleared up quite quickly.

Re: Cystitus in little boys
One of the Doctors at my surgery always recommends cranberry juice, so if he will drink it it wont do any harm until you can get him to the doctors for a check up. Hope he is feeling better very soon

Re: Cystitus in little boys
I would definitely take him to the Drs. Cystitis in children *can* be serious (not saying it is), and I would certainly want him checked out.

I don't know how old he is, but little boys do sometimes get UTIs
Try to get a wee sample, and take him and the sample to the doctors
UTIs can travel scarily fast, so I wouldn't 'wait and see'

Anyone used lactulose for their child?
