Did you 'plan' the timing of your pregnancies?

Now I fully appreciate that babies don't just happen to a schedule, but I wondered if any of you tried to have a baby at a certain time of year, like summer, or being born early in the school year? I've always wanted to have babies born at a warmer time of year, so April-September, I guess, mainly because I was born in the depths of winter (Dec 19th) and I always had to have an indoor sort of party. My brother was born in May and always got to have outdoors parties because it was nearly always good weather. I was always really jealous of him having a summer birthday

My DH has a July birthday and we spent it in the park last year at a concert in Hyde Park, bathed in sunshine, whereas mine was yet another indoor birthday

Yes, I did to an extent! I didn't want another winter baby so I did think about when to start trying I managed to end up with a baby born at the end of May.

Ds1 just kind of ended up in July, we got married in Feb, took anti malarials for our honeymoon so couldn't get pregnant, tried for a couple of months, had a miscarriage, tried a bit longer then he was born. With Ds2 when we first started thinking about TTC I worked out he would have been an August birthday so we put it off for a month and he ended up being October!

I didn't really - it took 9m to get pregnant first time so I didn't really care what time of the year babies were born. Second time only took 3m but I was lucky with both as one was born mid September and the second at the end of July so both can have outdoor parties, hopefully .

A little bit with Grace as I didn't want her born too close to her sister (although there's only 2 months in it)

It's funny you say about the winter vs summer birthdays. Both DH and I have winter birthdays (Jan for me, Feb for him) and both girls are summer birthdays (July and Sept) and so far they've both been able to have outdoor parties and they've had a lot of fun. When I had parties as a child it was always a nightmare for my Mum as she had to have it at home or hire a hall, where my brother who has an August birthday could just go down the park for a kick about and aa BBQ with his mates.

One thing I'm looking forward to with our IoW move is the girls birthday parties on the beach

No. It took me 18 months to conceive both times, it never occurred to me to pick when baby would be due as I was so desperate to ahve one at any time.

As it turned out Dexter was born very close to my birthday int he depths of winter, and this one is due close to DH's birthday in the middle of summer so we can both see the positives and negatives of birthdays at a certain time of year.

This time round I am. I want a summer baby purely for the selfish reason that my Mom comes to stay with us all summer and I want the help

So, I am starting in July this time, which means even if I concieved in October I would still get my summer baby.

We didnt plan when oli should like to be born lol,.. though next time i would like to have a spring/summer baby. Any time between april and august, which would mean i need to get pregnant any time between august the year before and feb the following year, roughly..

Im not too fussed though tbh.

Re: Did you 'plan' the timing of your pregnancies?

My mum decided she didnt want children born at the end of the school year, cos she always felt sorry for kids born in exam time, and those born in july august have the disadvantage of being 'young' for their year. She got it bang on with me, as I was born in september, in words 'it just happened straight away'. My sister also happened 'straight away' (albeit, after a m/c) and was also due september but foiled my mums carefully laid plans and came two weeks early... in august!

My mum sounds like a right loon now I think!

I only hope we're so lucky to have it happen so promptly!

No. I was mega broody when we first started TTC, then it took about a year and a half to conceive so timing really didn't come into it.

That said, I'm so pleased to be having a summer baby as mine and DH's birthdays are both in the middle of winter so it'll be so nice to be able to do birthday things in the summer

Not dissimilar to Clem, just getting and staying pg was enough for me. Never even occurred to me to plan it.

Re: Did you 'plan' the timing of your pregnancies?

DD was born in January after 15 months of TTC, so I was really pleased that I was pregnant but wish i could have fallen pg either the month before or after as we now have 7 birthdays between mine and DH family in January. I wanted No.2 to be between 18mth-2yrs younger than DD, so started TTC when she was 6mths and then it took us 6mths to fall pg, so there is now 21 mths between them which is what we wanted. So it was kind of planned timing but not because of the time of year.

Re: Did you 'plan' the timing of your pregnancies?

I was quite lucky in that I got pregnant quickly both times. L is a November baby (I was just desperate to be pregnant and so wasn't fussy about timings although I probably would have stopped the next month as I didn't want a Dec baby ) and we decided that we wanted a summer baby next so B came along in July

Both DH and L have winter birthdays and Me and B have summer birthdays so it is a nice mix
    L is 6
    B is 4

Re: Did you 'plan' the timing of your pregnancies?

Before becoming a long-term TTCer, I really didn't want either an August baby or a winter baby. However, it took 18 months to fall pg with Will and his birthday is 30 January - at a time when (ideally) I didn't want a child of mine to be born. However, I was just so desperate and overjoyed to become pregnant that it didn't cross my mind any further. I'm sure William will have something to say about it when he's older though

Re: Did you 'plan' the timing of your pregnancies?

Yes I wanted a spring/early summer baby and not a christmas one.

First time round it worked out nicely, Louis is May, second time we were trying for a year and nearly didnt try the month that would result in december baby but decided not to waste the opportunity which of course resulted in a december baby Having a winter baby is a totally different experience! I'm loving hiding my post baby body in loads of winter layers rather than having to contemplate summer dresses

Re: Did you 'plan' the timing of your pregnancies?

I didnt even think about it with Ella and fell first month of trying but in retrospect it was a fab time to be pregnant (July to April) I could snuggle my big bump up with loads of layers though the winter and she was born before I had to have an unconfortable heavily pregnant summer. It was also lovely to have a newborn in the summer months, I really enjoyed it.

I did try to plan it the same second time round and came off the pill in June but this time it took longer to conceive. This baby will be born in June and I cant say I am looking forward to swollen ankies in summer but I am looking forward to another Summer baby.

Re: Did you 'plan' the timing of your pregnancies?

I'm a freak then cos I wanted winter babies

I have a late dec birthday and I like it I also didn't want them disadvantaged in school or sport. In addition if I *had* to choose I have a slight girl preference, and I have a personal theory that winter babies are more likely to be girls.

I did plan dates, it took a few months to get pg so not exactly as planned. W is a week later than I'd have liked in March, so she'll be a jan starter at school rather than sept
