. *how do I get him dry at night?*

Robbie has been clean & dry for over a year now and was pretty much the same over night . He has been wearing pj pants for a wee while and for 6 nights out of 7 , he was fine .

Anyhoo, he ran out of pj pants one night and I decided to go for it but since then, he has pretty much wet the bed every night since , which must be over a fortnight now .

I lift him at 10pm each night but am wondering if this is the wrong thing to do ?

Does it bother him being wet? Presumably you're reducing liquid intake & making him wee before bed so beyond that I'm not sure TBH if you've been lifting him for a couple of weeks & he's still wet, I'd be inclined to just leave him & see what happens

Hope you find the answers soon.

I limit his water / milk intake after 6pm which is pretty much the last he gets . He doesn't seem to worry about being wet, although will come to wake me at 3am if that happens !

I don't know is the answer. I've tried to encourage DD, but she still wakes up with a full wet nappy (and she has been dry and clean in the day for well over 2 years). DS's nappy is usually drier in the morning than hers is, and he drinks more in the evening.

I've tried just going for it, but it didn't work and we have now agreed than when the nappy is dry we'll try it the next night.

I know other people have found incentives of all sorts worked well.

I'm trying not to worry about it too much for at least another year yet.

C still isn't anywhere near to being dry at night. Usually his pullup is pretty full.

But I'm hoping it'll somehow click for him eventually, he totally understands.

ATEOTD it's a chemical thing that leads the way to being dry.

    Thanks hun .

I know what you mean, I am trying not to stress out it but I guess other mummies tell me that he *should* be dry in the night doesn't help .

Will just have to see how it goes for the next wee while and thank goodness for Huggies *dry nights* .

Re: *how do I get him dry at night?*

I've just cut and pasted this from another thread

Been there done that! My daughter who is 2 years younger was dry at night when my son was still in nappies. It is honestly just a matter of time IMHO you cannot force them and it really is something outwith your control.

I did a lot of reading on it and basically with boys there is a chemical in their body that they need to be dry at night and if they don't have it they won't be dry. So its just a waiting game until they start producing that chemical. I spoke to the school nurse about it and she said with boys they won't intervene until age 8.

Like your son Kyle was such a deep sleeper and a very heavy nighttime wetter. However one night he had a dry nappy completely out of the blue - something that he had never had, we kept the nappy for a couple of weeks and for the first week sometimes he wet sometimes he didn't and towards the end of the second week he was consistently dry so we dropped the nappy!

Personally I'd say keep the nappy on and don't stress. He's just not ready and I honesly don't believe you can train them to be at night.

don't think the cut n paste was for a thread of mine, but noo noo has reasssured me in the past too ... DS1 will be 6 in three weeks and is sodden every morning so I am just waiting for the *magic* to happen.

DS2 is dry through the night, but still in nappies during the day ... kinda proving its "just one of those things"

Gemma is still far from ready for this. Every morning she wakes and her nappy is absolutely soaked through. I feel that I am ready to wait for her to be ready.

Ditto what Noo Noo said. DD was dry in the night the week she turned two, DS is 6.5years and still has the odd wet bed. It is only in the past few months that we have been able to stop lifting him for a wee.

    Thanks girls

I *know* that I am getting caught up in the same old story * he should be * which is really sad and I know that I should let that go but it is really hard , especially when everyone seems to point out that R is a second child and should be doing it !!

We lift R at 10, too, and she is mostly dry now but she will wet the bed if we don't. I figure it saves us changing wet nappies or beds so no harm done.

I think Noo Noo is right. It took me a long time to get it in my head (re Lulah) but they either have the chemical whatsit in their head that will wake them up if they need to wee, or they don't.

Nothing you can do will make a difference, imho. Stick the nappy back on and wait til you've had nother clear fortnight before you try again.

We have this we our DS1 too. He is 6 now. The only thing with him is that he had a dry period for about 8 months at night, but then a few months before starting school he started bedwetting again. He is year 1 now and is fine at school, so I don't think it is related to that now, but he is still wet at night. We have the occasional dry night, but he sleeps really deeply.

DS2 is nearly 3 and we only started potty training him back in November, yet most nights now he is dry and we are thinking we will stop his night time nappies soon if he continues like this.

Re: *how do I get him dry at night?*

E was dry during the day at 2.5, she was five in October but is still not dry at night, I've tried taking her out of pullups lots of times, but even if I left her, there's still the chance of a wet bed.

I'm just waiting for it to click. J suddenly became reliably dry shortly before he was 5, so they're both on the late end of the spectrum.

It's strange, she's so good at everything else - one of those children who picks things up quickly and can do everything easily, yet this is the one area she obviously has no control over whatsoever.
