good hotels in rome?
Hi, it's my mum's 60th next February and I am thinking of taking her away for the weekend to Rome. I've looked on Expedia and there are some really good deals.
Does anyone have any hotel recommendations? I want one right in the centre of the city.
Thanks!
Argente
P.S. Also any tips for how to make the most of a 3 night stay there on a budget, I've never been, am really excited!!!!

Re: good hotels in rome?
If you want to be in the heart of things, I would try to get one near the Pantheon, Piazza Novona or Spanish Steps.
Expedia can be a bit misleading with locations. We recently stayed in the River Palace, and it was really nice, but a bit too far out to be honest.
There are plenty of places to eat relatively cheaply, especially if you stick to pasta, pizza or paninis. We only got ripped off once, and that was right outside the Vatican (should have really avoided eating in such an obviously touristy place tbh).
At night, I would head towards the Piazza Navona or Pantheon, lots going on - buskers, artists and loads of people watching to be done. We paid the extra to get tours of the Vatican and the Colloseum - worth it for the Colloseum, but, tbh, the Vatican was so crowded, we should have saved our money and just gone in by ourselves. Hopefully February won't be as busy as August, and therefore less queues.
If you can afford it (time wise as well as financially) it is well worth doing the trip to Pompeii - absolutely fascinating and very eerie.

PS enjoy - it really is a beautiful city. Makes you think - they were building all these amazing pieces of architecture when our ancestors were running about in caves

Thanks Skerry Berry!!
Thanks for the tip about locations, I'll make sure I get one close to one of those places.
My mum absolutely loves people watching so we'll definitely head out at night as you suggested.
Thanks again!
