And even if that's what is sounds like it might not actually be spelt in either way - Laura has a little girl in her class called Maria....well that's how it's pronounced but it's written Maariya! She's Indian and I'd have gone for MAR-ee-a as a pronounciation if I hadn't heard her mum say it!
