Baby Monitors
Hello
Can anyone offer me any recommendations for baby monitors?
A friend of mine has one which monitors the baby's breathing and will sound an alarm if the baby stops breathing or if the breath slows.
However, DH would like a video monitor and I don't seem to be able to find one that does both breathing and video.
Does anyone have a breathing monitor and do you find it useful and non-tempremental?
DH thinks that a breathing monitor is just playing in to parent's insecurities, but I have no knowledge of this sort of thing so I haven't a clue!
Thanks!

Re: Baby Monitors
We have a breathing monitor that alarms if there is no movement for 20 seconds and then the BT digital plus that has lots of features and will obviously pick up if the other one goes off. I am not aware of a monitor that does movement sensor, sounds and video though.
We were not bothered with having a video one. The BT digital plus allows you to talk and turn on the night light and music remotely which we have found useful

Re: Baby Monitors
I also have a Tomme Tippee monitor that has a motion/breathig sensor, night light and temp gauge too - I love it
and would highly reccommend it.
It hasn't played on my insecurities at all, in fact I am a lot happier and relaxed knowing that if (god forbid) she stopped breathing we would know instantly with the alarm sounding.
I have read that they are prone to false alarms, but we haven't had that trouble with ours at all, altho a friend had hers go off 3 times in the same night, so it does happen unfortunately!

Re: Baby Monitors
We had the older (non digital) version of this last time

And will be getting that one next time round.
I've also had a Tommee Tippee one and have to say that personally I found the Angelcare one FAR superior.
Absolutely fantastic (you can always turn the "tic" off it bothers you but both DH and I found it strangely comforting!!!) and it never ever ever went off on it's own.
I have head that people tend to have more problems in a cotbed rather than a cot as there is more room for the baby to roll around (and off the sensor and hence the alarm goes off!) than in a cot.
I personally wouldn't be without it but I can understand how it might bug some people!
Oh and the temp thing on them is a load of old bollocks as they nearly ALWAYS apparently read far hotter than it actually is!!
You DO get used to judging the temp, honestly!!!!

Re: Baby Monitors
We have a Johnsons motion sensor alarm. It does go off occasionally if DD gets herself scrunched up at the bottom of the cot, but where she's that much older (1) now, I go and turn it off if it starts. We don't really use one for sound because we live in a bungalow and can pretty much hear from wherever we are.

Re: Baby Monitors
Thanks everyone. We don't have room for a cot, so baby will be in a crib until it's 6 months old (when hopefully we will have moved house!) so with any luck we won't have trouble with it going off because baby is at one end of the crib.
