    Aromatherapy/homeopathy in birth?

Does anyone have any experiences of this? Or any recommendations?

Ooh! I'd like to know this too! I'm all for anything that might make things a bit smoother...

(Sorry, Skibunny, I'm absolutely no help to you at all.)

I had an aromatherapy massage oil last time (didn't use it though ) I bought it from www.theactivebirthcentre.co.uk

I think with homeopathy the best thing is to actually see a practitioner and they'll suggest a variety of different remedies to you. I used arnica after the birth and that helped with the healing but you can use other things during labour (including arnica I think)

I'll try and find out more and get back to you

http://www.birthfriendly.co.uk/homeopathy.htm has some info. Also, if you click on the shopping link and then see the ebay shop there's more homeopathy stuff there. She's very helpful so maybe email her and ask any specific questions?

    Thanks for that link Shamu.

I've got a labour aromatherapy kit I bought when pregnant with B and never opened - do you think it's still usable (nearly three years on?)

I had aromatherapy massages at my local hospital throughout my pregnancy and also during my labour (luckily for me it was the same midwife who delivered DD!). She also gave me reflexology in the water as I was having a hard time during the pushing phase and this helped me to relax.

Didnt try homeopathy but I would think that some arnica would help to relieve the feeling of " having sh@gged the England, Wales and Scotland rugby team" after the birth!

ETA I wouldnt risk out of date oils as you have to be so careful.

Hiya, Clary Sage oil is wonderful for massaging the lower back, and can even make contractions more efficient as it tones the uterus. (Some people use it to help induce labour!!) That said, didn't speed up my 47 hour labour!
