Are you supposed to cool them when they have a high temp?
I can't remember what the advice is. Oscar has a high temperature, MIL has suggested putting him in a cool bath but I don't feel right about this. I thought the temperature is supposed to be a good thing (fighting bugs or whatever?)
He's in a nappy and short sleeved/short legged romper suit type thing, and we have a fan going in our room although not pointing directly at the bed.xx Hermie xx

I never have done this, just used Calprofen or similar. Don't do it if you don't feel comfortable with it, although a cool flannel on his face won't do any harm. Hope he's better soon.

No, just sponge him with cool water. My kids always hated this but it helps. And max dose of calpol for his age. If that doesnt work then give him Nurofen an hour later. That should work.
If it doesnt ring NHS direct.
Hope he feels better soon, poor thing.DS1 19

I usually cool them down with a wet sponge or facecloth.

I'd not recommend the bath, unless really hot (like 40oC). Personally I stripe the kids to just nappy/pants, give medised and open windows, put fan on, use flannels (likes Mrs B also suggests).

Re: Are you supposed to cool them when they have a high temp?
I think I would only be looking at sponging down or a cool bath if the temp was really really high and I was worried about a seizure or such like. Like Mrs B I would go with nurofen; it helps them get comfortable and get back to sleep. Hope he feels better soon

What's his temperature?
I think it's actually advised NOT to give cool baths etc as can send them into shock.
If it's over about 38.5C I give calprofen.DS born April 2007

I'd second sponging down and a fan too. He'll hate it but it'll cool him down quickly, that and calpol/nurofen alternatively. Agree about the bath, i'd only do it if it was over 40c.

Re: Are you supposed to cool them when they have a high temp?
thanks
it's been hovering just above 39 degrees for most of this evening. He's had a full dose (for his age) of Disprol which is the only medicine brand he'll take, but he's still pretty sweaty and also complaining of being cold. I'll get a muslin and a bowl of water to put near the bed in case I feel he needs it. hopefully he'll be just fine.

Not sure what family Disprol is?
Zach won't take any medicine so we mix it into a bit of yoghurt which works well.
Hope he's feeling better soon. x
