My cake disaster :( with pics!

    What went wrong???

There was WAY too much mixture for a 2lb loaf tin and it spewed out all over the oven (must clean the oven tonight )and what was left in the tin was raw in the middle and crunchy on the outside. It had an hour and 20 mins in the oven at 150.

    It was from this recipie...

    Toffee Muller Yoghurt Cake
    1 carton (approx 150g) yoghurt
    2 cartons caster sugar
    3 cartons self raising flour
    1 carton sunflower oil
    3 eggs
    1 teaspoon vanilla essence

    Method

Beat all the ingredients together with an electric whisk until smooth (or use a fork or hand whisk). Line a loaf tin, pour in and bake for 1 1/2 hours at 160 oc, gas mark 3 for 1 1/2 hours. Adjust for fan assisted oven to 150 oc for about an hour.

Nigella does the same one - with an even shorter cooking time! http://www.nigella.com/recipe/recipe...aspx?rid=14243

By the carton size should it be a single portion carton as opposed to a larger one?

Some yoghurt pots seem to be 100ml where as others seem to be 150ml.

The temperature on the Nigella recipe is much hotter than yours though. 150 is pretty low even for an hour and 20. The proportions all sound about right though. It could be that you need to use a bigger tin.

What was the raw mix like? Was it quite wet? I don't know it looks like it could have done with more flour to keep it together?

It also looks over risen almost as if the oven went off/cooled down half way through...did you open the door at all?

I dunno, but its got a lovely crust - perhaps you could just kind of slyly hack that off and have it with a sneeky cuppa in the kitchen?

Can't be worse than my baking today , at 8:20am this morning (in my dressing gown, no kids dressed yet, needing to leave house at 8:50) I started baking as was going to be out most of day... I put cake in oven and then found the butter still on the scales , then when butter added burned by finger tops on a hot cake tin (by not remembering to use an oven mit, muppet!!) , then went off on school run only to remember the cakes in the oven as I was dropping Fin off (no phone on me, double muppet!) so dashed back to rescue them (only midly chargrilled), then went out leaving them on the side and returning at lunchtime to find one rock hard on the cake rack (the other was for the sponge part of a trifle type thing, which I over whipped the cream for, ended up with liquid cream, ended up shoving in the freezer, then found I'd forgotten to add the cherries... don't even ask!)

It was a single portion size - however I've just dug the pot out of the bin and its 200ml so that would account for there being so much mixture

    I did think I could try it next time in 3 x 1lb tins or a couple of 2lb tins. Although I only have 2 x 1lb and 1 x 2lb
