Mum of older children - how much help are you expected to give with homework?
Not that I have older children, but I am talking about an 8year old and a 10year old...........
I am finding that I am having to give them a lot more help, mainly not understanding what they have been asked to do!
One of them struggles with maths and the other english!
Tonight I have become an expert on maths puzzle tables and comprehension!
Is this normal?

Mine isn't quite that old, but I do seem to help quite a lot.
I do struggle though, I just don't have the patience for it

I have a nine year old and an eleven year old and I don't help at all
They manage well themselves - not that I COULD help the eleven year old in maths that is!

Charlie is 9 and she mostly does her own, but hates it with a passion so trys to badger us into helping

Sometimes (rarely) have to help 9yr old to comprehend what the task is about, but that is usually due to a really poorly written question sheet.
The bigger ones (13 and 15) need no help- except booting DS to actually DO it and preventing DD1 from working all hours

My DS is only 7 but we have to hear them read 4x a week (school book and also any other book if we want) we get sent home a handwritting peice every week and a maths sheet every week.
at the mo they are preparing for the sats that are not sats so we get reading comprehension work set home. I would say at least 30 mins a day!Im definitely going to hell, but I'll have all the best stories to tell.

Its a common joke in our house, me and HB always ask the kids what homework we have on a weekend

J is 14, and apart from occasionally asking me to read through something he has already written, I don't really help him at all. Sometimes he will discuss points of view with me, for an essay, but then goes and writes it himself. If he needs help with maths he has to ask my DH!
