. Severe Back Pain- what can I do?

For the last 3 days or so my lower back has been aching like hell. Today it REALLY hurts . I've been taking Nurofen Back Pain tablets which just arent touching it at all . DH has rubbed some heat rub stuff on it so hopefully that will ease it a bit soon. Any other ideas as to what I can do?

I'm sure its related to Emma being such a lump, but I cant ignore her when she wants to be picked up. Its not her fault bless her.

I'm not convinced its worth going to the doc as he'll just say rest it- easirer said than done

    Any ideas oh wise ones?

Re: Severe Back Pain- what can I do?

I always think its worth getting to the root of the problem .
When I had a bad back/ hip I went to see a chiropractor and then a physio who eventually sorted it . The pain is always caused by something and usually you can help heal yourself. ( by doing excersises etc )

(Dont know how much one would be in your area ) I went to see a very understanging GP she has an interest in sports injuries and she referred me to a physio asap. I am now finally pain free after doing all the excersises they recomended.

Re: Severe Back Pain- what can I do?

    Thanks Crazyfool.

I've suffered on and off for years now- a hazard of being a mummy and childminder I suppose. There's always a little one wanting to be carried .

I've always been a bit reluctant to be prodded by a physio but I know I should. I'll try an d get an appointment with the doc tomorrow and maybe see if I can get a referral ( cant afford to do it privately unfortunately ). Meanwhile I'll keep taking the painkillers ( just got some stronger ones from the chemist) and hope it feels better soon.

Hi- I suffer from backpain too. All my labour with my DS was in my back and sijnce then have suffered terribly with it to the point of not being able to move. I went to see a physio by referall which did do some good along with the superstrong painkillers but its back now and getting worse- even sitting here is hurting
Paracetamol and ibuprofen work well and you can take both, the nurofen back pain ones are good but only I found if you take them regulaly.
A physio will work wonders but make sure you keep up the exercises as thats where I went wrong and now am going to have to wait for another referall.
Your doc should be able to give you even stronger painkillers if you need them ,stronger than overthecounter.
Hot water bottles help as do hot baths and wearing a jumper with a hot water bottle shoved up the back of it is great for some releif in the evenings but not practical during the day with the kiddies!
Hope you get it sorted soon- you have all my sympathy as back pain is horrid

Oh you poor things there is nothing worse than a bad back.

Fluffball thats the secret you have to do the excersises regularly and I was lucky that at the time I was child free so had plenty of time on my hands. Any physio should show you excersises to strengthen your back and stomach . ( you need strong tummy muscles to protect your back) Tbh the physio I saw didn't really prod at all . He asked me to bend , move my legs etc to see where the tight spots were . He didn't actually massage as such it was more repeated movements over and over which freed things up and now thankfully I am pain free. I

I cant recomend enough sleeping with a pillow between your knees ( on your side) it stops your pelvis twisting . Sitting with good posture , lifting correctly etc However wriggly toddlers dont make a good example . I know it must be difficult because my mum is a carer in an old peoples home and she has had years of bad backs. Her union said dont lift people if they fall over but its not really something you can ignore . IYKWIM
You could also try a hot or cold pack on the painfull area . ( hot water bottle or pack of frozen peas)

Hope you get it sorted soon .
