    Ex Smokers Help me Please

    Hello
I gave up smoking on Jan 29th the day after I got my BFP. I wasnt a heavy smoker- I just smoked a few roll ups after the kids were in bed and if I was out.
I am now REALLY suffering. I dont want to smoke again but since I had Gracie the cravings have come back with avengeance. I suppose my impetus for giving up has gone so to speak. DH has gone back to work today and Im scared Ill cave if the stress of 4 kids on my own gets too much- it was always good "me time" nipping into the garden for a fag
ANy words of wisdom please?? I so dont want to cave. It helps that there is no smoking stuff in the house so I would actvely have to go to the shop and purchase said items which may give me time to say no to self but arghhhhhhhhhhhhh

Well it helps that you've posted this - you obviously don't WANT to start smoking again, and that's great! You can still pop into the garden for "me time", just focus on doing something else instead. Maybe something with your hands like (don't laugh!) knitting or crochet? Or chewing gum or eating breadsticks? You just have to find a way to fight each craving as it comes, and they will become less and less frequent, I promise you.

You know what? almost 9 years after quitting & I still find myself "smoking" my pen or whatever if I get stressed.....
(which basically means I totally understand where you're coming from.....)

You CAN do it Have a glass of water every time you feel the urge for a fag (good way of getting your quota of water as well )

And just think how disgusting it tastes as well

You've done really really well to get this far - don't spoil it now

    Don't do it

I gave up smoking for 5 years, then one day (don't ask me why) I just fancied a cigarette. Thought, I'll just buy 10, then once they're finished I'll stop again. Unfortunately it didn't work like that and I was addicted again for another 7 years

I have now stopped for 7 years and I did this with the help of polos . Yep, every time I fancied a ciggie, I popped in a polo and the craving vanished. I could never smoke after eating mints as it tasted horrible. Although I wish someone had told me that the sugar free versions could act like laxatives

Well done for packing the cigs in - don't go back to them, try the polos - it really worked for me!

I did find that after I gave up and then had a cigarette it nearly made me sick. I just couldn't stomach them any more.

Could you have a glass of wine or something as your you time?

Much the same thing happened to me. I'd been smokin 7 years when I fell preg with Sasha. As soon as I had my BFP I "tried" to stop. It wasn't until I was 3 months that I had actually quit all together, and even then it was hard, but a freak incident convinced me I needed to stop

After having Sasha I didn't get a craving at all, til I her father came over to visit. AT which point I craved them to the point I went and bought "throat rippers" according to some.

I nearly threw up- since then I've not touched a cig

I agree with what others have said, find some other way of filling in that time you'd normally go for a crafty fag

Its hard isnt it... I have always given up and started again! I am currently starting week 4 of quitting. I find not having any fags in the house helps as I cant physically have one, then the craving passes. Brush your teeth if the craving gets bad (if you are indoors) I find this helps.

Whatever you do... DONT CAVE!!!! Good luck hun

Absolutely nothing, I am a big knitter myself, but my family always laugh at me and call me an old lady! So maybe I am slightly defensive about it
